Job Description About the Firm Callahan & Fusco is a regional insurance defense firm handling matters across the East Coast, including trucking, construction, product liability, and general liability litigation. The Role We are seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Paralegal based in New Jersey for a hybrid position (3 days in office / 2 remote). The right candidate understands how a file progresses, knows what comes next, and takes action without waiting to be told. How We Operate We utilize a pool system. Paralegals are not assigned to a single attorney. You will work across multiple attorneys, matters, and clients. Work is assigned based on bandwidth, experience, and familiarity with the matter. Senior paralegals assist with delegation and workflow. As cases move closer to trial, paralegals are assigned to specific matters and work more closely on those files to ensure they are fully prepared and positioned for trial. This structure provides exposure, but also requires organization, communication, and accountability. What We Expect Top performers in this role: Work independently and proactively Understand the lifecycle of an insurance defense case Anticipate next steps and move files forward Are detail-oriented and organized Communicate effectively with attorneys and team members Handle time entry contemporaneously and follow billing guidelines Help position matters for efficient resolution or trial Responsibilities Support matters from inception through trial Review and summarize medical records and billing (chronologies) Draft and manage discovery demands and responses Prepare motions and litigation documents Coordinate IMEs, experts, and scheduling Summarize depositions and key case materials Handle HIPAA authorizations and subpoenas Manage NY/NJ e-filing Communicate with clients, carriers, and experts Maintain organized files in the case management system Technology Filevine Lexis / Lexis Protégé Microsoft Teams ROAM We expect candidates to be comfortable with technology and open to using AI tools to improve efficiency. Requirements 2 years of insurance defense experience (NJ and/or NY required) Experience with NY/NJ court systems and e-filing Experience in bodily injury and catastrophic loss matters preferred Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to work independently and within a team structure Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate required Company Description Callahan & Fusco is a growing regional law firm.
