The coach motivates student-athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport. Works closely with student-athletes to develop good character on and off the field. Assists teachers, counselors, and other school personnel with student-athlete attendance, academics, and behavior in and out of cross country season. STUDENT ELIGIBILITY AND PROGRAM SIZE9th grade - varsity20-30 student-athletesLENGTH OF PROGRAMIn-Season:11 weeksContests: 14Monday-SaturdayOut-of-Season:Limited Contact Winter: 18 practicesLimited Contact Spring: 12 practicesSummer: 8 weeksMEETINGS AND ACTIVITIESAttends organizational meetings for the team and coachesParticipates in special activities to include banquets, awards nights, and pep assembliesAttends annual athletic department meetings and seasonal player/parent meetingsAttends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performanceMaintains certifications via NFHS/IHSAARESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESAssesses players' skills and assigns team positionsDevelops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team developmentCoaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sportObserves players, during competitions and practices, to determine the needs for individual or team improvementEstablishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all timesMonitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are metFollows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injuryEncourages players to play multiple sportsFollows IHSAA regulations governing the athletic programModels sportsman-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectatorsFollows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniformsMaintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related recordsOTHER INFORMATIONAssists in conducting a youth camp during the summerAssists in conducting fundraiser(s) when permitted and approvedPerforms any other related duties as assigned by the school principal, athletic director, or other appropriate administratorsWorks closely with the feeder program to foster growth and athletic development of future student-athletesIs a participating member of state and/or national coach's associationProvides transportation for team members via the Tri-Creek activity bus when applicable
