Athletics Specialist, Lake Rickabear Summer Camp

Job TypeTemporaryDescriptionGirl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging Summer Camp environment!At Jockey Hollow, there are 212 pristine acres to explore and enjoy. With a large "L"-shaped swimming pool, Low Ropes Challenge Course and Zip Line, beautiful equestrian center, archery range, playing field, and adventurous hiking trails, the fun is endless!The Athletics Specialist will develop and implement an age-appropriate athletics curriculum to educate and inspire campers to participate in a variety of sports-related activities at camp and guide campers through a variety of activities including but not limited to basketball, pickleball, gaga, and field games.Immediate Supervisor: Program DirectorResponsibilities include but are not limited to:Develop and implement an age-appropriate athletics curriculumActivity areas include but are not limited to: basketball, pickleball, gaga, and field gamesMaintain strict safety procedures set forth by GSNNJAttend pre-camp training and conduct training to encourage staff to participate during athletic activitiesMaintain communication with Unit Leaders, Counselors, and Junior Counselors regarding camper behavior and supervisionInstruct and facilitate a group of up to 20 girls, providing fun, informative, and skill building athletic games and activitiesPlan, coordinate, and supervise special programs for Special Interest DayAssist in planning and leading games and campfire program for all 3 overnights until 9:30 pmKeep a supply of appropriate rainy day activity resources availableMaintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of sports equipment and shedConduct safety orientation of equipment and safety proceduresProvide resources for unit staff to develop unit projects, lessons, and programsMaintain files of ideas and directions of athletic programsWrite and submit a seasonal report and evaluation of the season's athletic program activitiesPromote high camper and staff moraleDocument and diligently report any health and welfare concerns to the Camp Health SupervisorMust be able to stay and sleep over for at least one out of the three overnightsMust be able to stay at camp until the end of campfire for the overnights not staying overnight forPerform other duties as assigned Daily Rate: $123 (new staff) - $128 per day (returning staff). This is based on a 7.5 hour work day, which translates to $16.40 - $17.07 per hour respectively. RequirementsMust be 18+ years of ageDesire and ability to supervise, lead, and positively manage campers and work with other staff in a cooperative, team-oriented camp atmosphereAbility to teach skills to campers of all ages and staff in a safe, inclusive, enthusiastic, and fun wayAbility to use sound judgement surrounding safety proceduresMust be attentive and timelyRegularly speak, read, write, interpret, and respond to words in the English languageMust be able to communicate well with other staff and community partnersAbility to schedule and develop a program for athleticsKnowledge of the sports (including but not limited to basketball and pickleball),Knowledge of Girl Scouting, leadership skills, and proven instructional experience.Individuals must be in physical condition to perform duties.Hold or be willing to obtain current certification of standard First Aid and CPR (training to be provided).
