Other Schools and InstructionElementary and Secondary SchoolsPromoters of Performing Arts, Sports, and Similar EventsChild Care ServicesOther Residential Care FacilitiesJob TypeTemporaryDescriptionGirl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging Summer Camp environment!Lake Rickabear Day Camp sits on 332 acres of land including a beautiful 40-acre, spring-fed lake, perfect for swimming, pedal boating, paddle boarding, and row boating.The Arts and Crafts Specialist will direct and coordinate the development of the Girl Scout program in camp through promotion and supervision of creative arts and crafts activities which will provide opportunities for campers to discover, connect and take action. They will plan and execute quality, age-appropriate programming in their area of expertise, which includes various artistic techniques, developing the art curriculum, and maintaining a clean program area.Immediate Supervisor: Program DirectorResponsibilities include but are not limited to:Schedule and develop age-appropriate programs and activities in creative arts & crafts activitiesMaintain strict safety procedures set forth by GSNNJAttend pre-camp training and conduct training to staff on activitiesCreate and distribute samples of available arts & crafts programs based on the week's theme with directions to unit leadersMaintain communication with Unit Leaders, Counselors, and Junior Counselors regarding camper behavior and supervisionInstruct and support a group of up to 20 girls, providing fun, informative, and skill building innovative art lessonsPlan, coordinate, and supervise special programs for Special Interest DayMust be able to stay and sleep over for at least one out of the three overnightsMust be able to stay at camp until the end of campfire for the overnights not staying overnight forKeep a supply of appropriate rainy day activity resources availableMaintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of arts & crafts centerConduct safety orientation of equipment and safety proceduresProvide resources for unit staff to develop unit projects, lessons, and programsMaintain files of ideas and directions of art programsWrite and submit a seasonal report and evaluation of the season's art program activitiesPromote high camper and staff moraleDocument and diligently report any health and welfare concerns to the Camp Health SupervisorPerform other duties as assigned Daily Rate: $123 (new staff) - $128 per day (returning staff). This is based on a 7.5 hour work day, which translates to $16.40 - $17.07 per hour respectively. RequirementsMust be 18+ years of ageDesire and ability to supervise, lead, and positively manage campers and work with other staff in a cooperative, team-oriented camp atmosphereAbility to teach skills to campers of all ages and staff in a safe, inclusive, creative, and fun wayAbility to use sound judgement surrounding safety proceduresMust be attentive and timelyRegularly speak, read, write, interpret, and respond to words in the English languageMust be able to communicate well with other staff and community partnersFirst Aid and CPR certified or willingness to obtain prior to camp beginning Physical RequirementsWalking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and ability to lift and move up to 30 poundsDaily exposure to seasonal weather conditions.Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is an Equal Opportunity Employer, drug free workplace, and complies with ADA regulations as applicable.Salary Description
