Technicians are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing protection and control systems.These systems are used to monitor protection systems in power substations.Technicians must have a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles as well as computer skills.They use this knowledge to install, repair, and maintain protection and control systems that may include microprocessor relays, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, pumps, motors, etc.Duties & ResponsibilitiesInstall, maintain, and troubleshoot protection and control relaying and associated devicesPerform calibration of various types of protection and control relays and devicesAssist in creating and maintaining protection and control documentationAssist assigned project lead with field assignments Install, program, and maintain protection and control relays and devicesParticipate in process hazard analyses Maintain knowledge of current industry trends and practicesRequired Skills and QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent associate's degree in electrical engineering, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred 0-3 years' experience in a controls technician or similar roleFamiliar with Microsoft Office applications Ability to read and interpret electrical schematicsWorking knowledge of PLCs and HMIs Experience with AC and DC systems
