Job Title VBA/Macro Developer - 100% RemoteLocation : RemoteDuration: - 12+ monthsInterview WebexPosition SummaryOverviewOur client s IT Operations organization is looking for a VBA/Macro Developer to help modernize a broad portfolio of legacy business process automation. This role sits within IT Operations and will support Finance, Accounting, and other business teams whose workflows rely on a mix of Excel VBA macros, Access databases, and integrations with SQL Server that have grown over many years, much of it undocumented and originally built by team members no longer with the company. Some of these processes also depend on VBScript, which Microsoft is phasing out. This role will assess, reverse-engineer, and convert this legacy automation into modern, well-documented, and supportable solutions)Key ResponsibilitiesAssess and reverse-engineer legacy VBA macros, Access databases, and SQL Server integrations used across Finance, Accounting, and Operations teams, many of which are undocumented and interdependentIdentify processes dependent on VBScript specifically, given Microsoft's phase-out timeline, and prioritize those for early conversionConvert legacy macros and Access-based tools into modern, maintainable solutions using Power Query, Office Scripts, Power Automate, and/or SQL-based approaches, depending on the use caseEvaluate whether existing Access databases and their SQL Server integrations should be modernized in place, migrated, or replaced, and recommend the right path for eachCollaborate with business stakeholders across Finance, Accounting, and Operations to understand workflow intent before converting or replacing automationManage competing stakeholder schedules and priorities while keeping the modernization effort on trackDocument converted processes clearly so future teams can maintain and build on the work without reverse-engineering it againCommunicate progress, blockers, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences Required Qualifications3+ years of hands-on experience with VBA macro development or conversion in Excel environmentsWorking experience with Microsoft Access, including database structure, queries, and forms, in a business environmentExperience with SQL Server, including writing and troubleshooting queries and understanding how Access or Excel tools integrate with itProficiency in Office Scripts, Power Automate, and/or PowerShell as modern conversion targetsDemonstrated ability to reverse-engineer undocumented legacy code and databases, and translate business intent into modern automationExperience working with complex, interlinked Excel workbooks and Access databases across enterprise environmentsStrong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to work with business teams who may not have a technical backgroundAbility to manage ambiguity and work independently with minimal documentation to guide the engagementRemote work discipline with the ability to self-manage across a year-long project Preferred QualificationsExperience in healthcare or other highly regulated industriesBackground in Finance or Accounting business processes, or experience supporting those teams directlyExposure to M365 cloud-first environments and Microsoft's evolving automation roadmap, including the VBScript deprecation timelinePrior experience on a similar legacy modernization engagement involving VBA, Access, and SQL Server
