Research Assistant I/II
OverviewBenaroya Research Institute (BRI) and Virginia Mason Medical Center (VMMC) are leaders in conducting cancer clinical trials aimed at improving cancer treatment and prevention. Their studies encompass chemotherapy, radiation, targeted therapies, diagnostic test development, and quality of life/symptom management. Annually, over 100 cancer-related clinical studies are conducted, including those sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and industry partners. The Cancer Clinical Research Unit is actively engaged in various cancer research areas, with ongoing clinical research studies.Hybrid work may be allowed occasionally depending on workload, research patient schedule, and job performance. The work schedule may vary - it is typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break.ResponsibilitiesResearch Assistant IProvides administrative and operational support to Clinical Research Coordinators in the conduct of clinical research studiesAssists with study start-up activities, regulatory file maintenance, and document managementSupports scheduling of study participants, data entry, and maintenance of study databases and centralized repositoriesAssists with management of study supplies, lab kits, and secure document uploads (e.g., OneNet or equivalent systems)May support clinical procedures such as vitals, EKGs, blood draws, sample processing, participant screening/recruitment, and study questionnaires under supervisionHandles routine transport of investigational product as neededResearch Assistant IIPerforms all duties of Research Assistant I with increased independence and responsibilitySupports study start-up, regulatory documentation, and maintenance of research databases with reduced supervisionIndependently manages participant scheduling, data entry, and routine study coordination tasksOversees accurate management of study documentation, lab kits, and secure data/image submissionsMay perform delegated clinical procedures (e.g., vitals, EKGs, blood draws, sample processing) and participant interactions per protocolProvides advanced support to coordinators and assists with study workflow coordination and problem-solvingQualificationsResearch Assistant IHigh school diploma requiredStrong computer, organizational, written, and interpersonal skillsHealthcare or clinical research experience preferredAbility to work under supervision and follow detailed protocolsResearch Assistant IIHigh school diploma requiredMinimum 9 months full-time experience in clinical research or related healthcare/research role requiredStrong organizational, communication, computer, and interpersonal skillsDemonstrated ability to work independently and reliably in a clinical research settingPrior experience with regulatory or clinical study operations preferredCompensationResearch Assistant I - $22.55 to $31.35 hourlyResearch Assistant II - $24.05 to $34.15 hourlyBenefitsMedical, dental, vision insuranceFlexible spending accounts: health care, dependent care, commuterShort and long-term disabilityLife and AD&D insurance403(b) retirement plan with matching funds after one year of employmentPTO: 13 holidays, three weeks of vacation and two weeks of sick leave per yearEmployee assistance programEducational assistance programSubsidized ORCA passWellness benefitsVoluntary benefitsAbout UsThe Clinical Research Program at Benaroya Research Institute (BRI) works together with clinicians at Virginia Mason Medical Center to bring clinical research opportunities to patients, giving them access to clinical trials for over 100 different conditions including cancer, digestive disease, cardiology, and neuroscience.
