Pharmacist - Facility Program Manager (Quality, Safety and Regulatory Compliance)

Pharmacy Quality Improvement And ComplianceDuties include but are not limited to:Quality Improvement & Risk ManagementCoordinates ongoing, proactive processes to evaluate and improve safe medication management strategies.Managers or assists with management of data collection, analysis, and review of medication safety related events and practices, including reports of Adverse Drug Events and medication errors.Participates in root-cause analysis of significant medication errors.Identifies the extent of the health system's adherence to published best practices and guidelines relevant to medication-use safety.Legal and Regulatory ComplianceFunctions as a consultant to management personnel regarding pharmacy activities related to Joint Commission, Office of Inspector General, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, etc.Functions as point of contact for medication safety policies and procedures involving Pharmacy Service.Coordinates internal pharmacy quality assurance tracers and education on Joint Commission and other regulatory topics; identifies practice patterns for review and targeting.Coordinates with pharmacy leadership on service compliance with VA policies and procedures.Participates in policy and procedure updates to ensure compliance of facility.Understands and provides education on regulatory processes, such as controlled substances management.Safety & StorageAssists the Pharmacy Chief in developing medication safety goals and objectives.Assists in development, approval, and implementation of policies and procedures that support medication safety.Coordinate interdepartmental and intradepartmental medication safety activities.Ensures parenteral solutions, medication concentrations, doses, and administration items are standardized whenever possible.Minimizes the potential for errors associated with medication products due to labeling, packaging, or medication names that look or sound alike.Ensures that medication storage is safe and secure throughout the institution.Other pharmacist duties as assigned to include reviewing and processing of orders, drug utilization education, pharmacokinetics, etc.Work ScheduleGenerally an 8-hour tour Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00am - 6:00pm. Employees may be required to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays on rotating schedule.
