In 2022, Spectra Tech was awarded ‘Small Business of the Year’ for 2021 by the U.S. Department of EnergyPosition PurposeThis position supports the Department of Energy (DOE) customer work scope primarily within nuclear facilities as part of the Civil/Structural & Analysis organization, contributing to a variety of projects and engineering functions.The role requires integration of safety into all aspects of engineering duties and personal accountability in the workplace. Experience in nuclear field operations and construction is preferred.The candidate will apply advanced engineering principles to solve complex problems, contribute to the development of new concepts, and support major design and analysis efforts. This role may also involve serving as a technical spokesperson within a specialized area of expertise.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform analysis, hand calculations, modeling, and simulation of structural and mechanical systems and componentsConduct linear and nonlinear, static and dynamic analysis (stress, force, vibration, material plasticity)Perform seismic analysis (static equivalent loads) of non-building structures and componentsCompare analytical results to governing codes, standards, and DOE requirementsSupport design and analysis of materials including steel and aluminumAssist design teams with:Design requirements developmentAlternative analysesEquipment selection and sizingVendor evaluations and summariesDrawing developmentDevelop:SpecificationsDrawingsEngineering Design Files (EDFs)Supporting calculations and analysisPerform technical reviews and checking of design documents and drawingsSupport Safety Analysis through accident analysis and consequence evaluationContribute to cost estimatesDocument analyses through clear, accurate technical reportsParticipate in design reviews, peer reviews, and technical evaluationsMaintain and expand technical knowledge through ongoing professional developmentMinimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)Minimum 8 years of related technical experience in analysis and designBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (accredited four-year program)Preferred:Master’s degree in Mechanical EngineeringExperience with:Structural/stress analysisFinite element analysis (FEA)Heat transfer and thermal analysisFluid systems analysisStrong proficiency in:Structural/stress analysis tools (Abaqus preferred)MathCAD and MS WordKnowledge of and ability to apply:National codes and standardsFederal regulations and guidelinesMust be able to obtain an “L” Security Clearance (based on project requirements)Strong:Analytical and problem-solving skillsWritten and verbal communication skillsAbility to interface with design teams, management, and clientsAbility to:Complete work on scheduleParticipate in reviews and peer checksLearn and apply new technical skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience with complex structural/stress analysis (over fluids-focused analysis)Experience using Abaqus finite element analysis softwareProfessional Engineer (PE) license (State of Idaho or ability to obtain)Training & DevelopmentParticipation in required General Employee Training, including:Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS)Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)Safety meetings and site-specific trainingAdditional task-specific training will be identified by managementSafety, Health, Quality & SecurityComply with all health, safety, environmental, and security requirementsUnderstand and follow emergency procedures and reporting protocolsIdentify and report unsafe conditionsAdditional RequirementsAdhere to environmental, safety, health, and pollution prevention regulationsEnsure personal and team safety at all timesApply the five core functions of Integrated Safety Management (ISM)Support operational excellence through proper conduct of operationsAt Spectra Tech, Inc., our recruitment team is powered by real people in real time—personally reviewing every application with care and integrity.
