Land Use and Zoning Attorney City of Miami Experience
Our firm is seeking a highly motivated Land Use & Zoning Associate to join our Miami-based practice, with a particular focus on matters within the City of Miami and surrounding urban jurisdictions. This is an opportunity to work at the center of one of the most dynamic and fast-evolving land use environments in the country.About the RoleThis position offers hands-on experience representing property owners, developers, and investors in complex, high-profile land use and zoning matters throughout the City of Miami. The ideal candidate will be comfortable navigating fast-paced municipal processes and engaging directly with public officials, staff, and stakeholders.In this role, you will be responsible for securing a wide range of zoning approvals, including rezonings, variances, waivers, special exceptions, and site plan approvals, while advising clients on due diligence, land development strategy, and entitlement risk. You will prepare and process applications before the City of Miami Planning, Zoning, and Appeals Board, the Historic and Environmental Preservation Board, and the City Commission. The position involves interpreting zoning codes, future land use maps, and architectural and site plans, drafting comprehensive plan and code amendments, coordination with local government staff, and appearing at public hearings to advocate on behalf of our clients.What We're Looking For:We are looking for someone who is not only technically strong, but also strategic, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of projects.1–3 years of experience in land use, zoning, or local government law Demonstrated experience working within the City of Miami or similar South Florida jurisdictions strongly preferred Experience with public hearings and direct client interaction Ability to analyze and interpret architectural plans and development programs Strong drafting, research, and communication skills Comfortable managing multiple matters in a fast-paced environment QualificationsJ.D. from an ABA-accredited law school Member of the Florida Bar in good standing Must be based in, or willing to relocate to, the Miami area Why Join UsOur firm is deeply embedded in the South Florida development landscape, and we pride ourselves on being practical, responsive, and results-driven while fostering a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
