Position Overview The Training Developer 2 – Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting training programs and instructional materials that improve employee knowledge, skills, and job performance. The position supports both instructor-led training (ILT) and digital/eLearning solutions, with a strong emphasis on eLearning development. Working closely with Learning & Development consultants, subject matter experts (SMEs), business partners, customers, and leadership, the Training Developer will analyze training requirements, establish learning objectives, recommend instructional strategies, develop training content, conduct quality assurance reviews, and support deployment through Southern Company's learning platforms. The successful candidate should have approximately 5–10 years of instructional design and/or curriculum development experience and a demonstrated portfolio of high-quality learning products. Key Responsibilities Instructional Design & Curriculum Development Design and develop comprehensive training programs based on identified business and performance needs. Analyze training requirements and recommend appropriate instructional approaches. Develop clear, measurable learning objectives. Apply instructional design methodologies and adult-learning principles throughout the development process. Translate complex technical, operational, soft-skill, and industry-specific information into understandable learning experiences. Develop learner-centered solutions that support business objectives and employee performance. Determine appropriate delivery methods based on the audience, content, learning objectives, and business requirements. Adapt training approaches to accommodate different learning styles, preferences, and organizational needs. eLearning Development Develop engaging digital learning solutions using approved eLearning authoring tools.
