Operating primarily within school-based health centers and public schools, this position provides essential oral assessments, preventative care, evaluation, management, and treatment to a diverse patient population.The successful candidate will ensure seamless compliance with all institutional standards, universal precautions, and infection control guidelines established by Montefiore Medical Center, while strictly adhering to the regulations of outside municipal and state governing agencies. This role requires a high degree of clinical independence, exceptional collaboration with school personnel, and a steadfast commitment to expanding community outreach and equitable healthcare access.ResponsibilitiesProvide comprehensive oral assessments, evaluations, clinical management, and necessary dental treatments for patients while ensuring a high standard of care.Complete all required medical and dental documentation accurately and thoroughly 100% of the time, in accordance with regulatory and institutional policies. Follow proper infection control protocols and adhere strictly to established universal precautions and health system standards to guarantee self and patient protection. Assess patient needs and formulate appropriate, timely clinical treatment plans, making necessary external and internal clinical referrals when appropriate. Maintain absolute competence and familiarity with all administrative logs, internal clinical tracking systems, and electronic health records. Attend all required departmental and clinical meetings, maintaining active participation in the professional development and collaboration of the school health team. Actively engage in community outreach events, school-based health initiatives, and special projects to enhance public health and program visibility. Collaborate and coordinate seamlessly with dental assistants to provide efficient four-handed dentistry, as well as with school principals, teachers, and administrators to deliver excellent service. Utilize specialized clinical knowledge to handle dental emergencies efficiently and make age-appropriate or population-specific clinical decisions.RequirementsDoctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry/Doctor or Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental program requiredMinimum of 3 years of clinical dental work experience requiredValid, unrestricted New York State Dental License Infection Control Certification Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Comprehensive, expert knowledge of general dentistry practices, diagnostic procedures, and specialized patient managementDemonstrated ability to adapt care based on physiological differences across specific age groups, including utilizing size-appropriate equipment tailored to the individual and the size of the patient’s mouthStrong computer proficiency and technology skills, alongside the proven ability to function independently and exercise sound judgment in accordance with established policies and procedures.Must have the ability and willingness to travel throughout the Bronx, NY, and work dynamically within NYC DOE public schools. During school holiday periods, staff members who choose to work may be temporarily stationed at designated MMG or MMC locations to perform administrative duties for the School Health program.Ability to perform medium work, including positioning patients and occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force, frequently exerting up to 20 pounds of force, or constantly moving objects to safely manage clinical equipment and patient care. Shift: Monday to Friday 0730A – 0300PAssociates are eligible to apply for a lateral transfer after completion of one (1) year of service in their present position, with the following exception: an Associate who has received a written warning is not eligible for a transfer/promotion prior to six (6) months from date of issuance; an Associate who has been suspended is not eligible for transfer/promotion prior to one (1) year from date of suspension. Part-time Associates who have completed their probationary period can move to full-time vacancies within their department provided such movement will not unreasonably reduce the operational efficiency of that department.
