Every employee takes a person-centered approach that exemplifies the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) through empathic communication and partnerships between all persons.Duties & ResponsibilitiesPurpose of Position: Under general direction provides or directly supervises the provision of general or specialty dental care of ordinary difficulty, including but not limited to performing initial and follow-up assessments; determining a plan of care and treatment; implementing or supervising diagnostic or therapeutic modalities; and monitoring the effects of care and treatment; performs related work.Examples Of Typical Tasks: Assignment Level I Obtains an adequate medical and dental history on every patient. Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries and malformations of teeth, gums and related oral structures. Examines patient to determine nature of condition, utilizing X-rays, dental instruments and other diagnostic procedures. Reviews and evaluates reports and clinical investigations and uses that information for determining patient care. Cleans, restores, extracts and replaces teeth, using rotary and hand instruments, dental appliances, medications, and surgical implements. Administers anesthesia and performs post-operative treatment. Provides preventative dental services and education in oral and dental hygiene to patients and families to appropriately involve them in care and care decisions to improve health outcomes by promoting recovery, speeding return to function, and promoting healthy behavior.Assignment Level II Under General Direction Provides Or Directly Supervises The Provision Of General Or Specialty Dental Care Of a More Difficult Nature. In Addition To Performing The Duties Of Assignment Level I At a More Difficult And Responsible Level, May Perform The Following: Performs highly specialized professional dental work. Provides advice and guidance to inpatient and outpatient dental care activities when appropriate, as directed by department head. Determines and administers the delivery of indicated and appropriate therapy. Gives guidance and direction to the house staff and other members of the health care team. Participates in the teaching of house staff, in staff conferences, and in research projects as directed by the department leadership. Serves as consultant in area of specialty to other members of professional staff or as assigned by department leadership. Develops a treatment plan based upon diagnostic radiographs, clinic examinations and information gathered from medical and dental history.Assignment Level III In Addition To Performing The Duties Of Assignment Level I And II At The Most Difficult And Responsible Level, May Perform The Following: Plans, organizes, and directs the operation of the dental program or a major segment of dental care activities within a dental service or dental program in a hospital or ambulatory health care facility; or assists the Chief of Service in the planning, organizing, and direction of the entire dental service or dental program. Participates in the development and revision of policies and procedures of the dental program and the establishment and maintenance of standards of performance. Reviews, monitors and implements the quality assurance program of the dental department. Represents area of specialty of the dental program on appropriate committees and meetings. Serves as a member of the Medical Board providing guidance on overall medical policies as related to the field of dentistry. Responsible for the implementation within own department of actions taken by the Medical Board. Provides clinical and didactic instruction to professional staff and conducts in-service educational programs. Performs administrative, professional, and consulting duties as requested by the Chief of Service.Minimum QualificationsDentists Practicing General DentistryAssignment Level I Possession of a valid license to practice dentistry in the State of New York; and One (1) year of full-time licensed experience in the practice of General Dentistry or equivalent experience acceptable to the Medical Board of the hospital.Assignment Level II / Assignment Level III Possession of a valid license to practice dentistry in the State of New York; and Five (5) years of full-time licensed experience in the practice of General Dentistry acceptable to the Medical Board of the hospital.Dentists Practicing in a Specialty AreaAssignment Level I Possession of a valid license to practice dentistry in the State of New York; and Currently meets the educational requirements, including residency and/or advanced training for American Board Specialty Certification.Assignment Level II and Assignment Level III Possession of a valid license to practice dentistry in the State of New York; and Five (5) years of full-time licensed experience in a field of specialty acceptable to the Medical Board of the hospital; and Currently meets the educational requirements, including residency and/or advanced training for American Board of Specialty Certification; and Current approved application on file for admission to the certifying examination given by the appropriate American Specialty Board.Department PreferencesHow To ApplyIf you wish to apply for this position, please apply online by clicking the "Apply for Job" button.
