Learn more at onwardrobotics.com.Job PurposeThe Controller is responsible for leading Onward's accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational scalability. This role will oversee financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting processes while partnering cross-functionally to support strategic growth. The Controller plays a critical role in building financial infrastructure that supports a fast-scaling robotics organization.Duties and Responsibilities:Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end closeEnsure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in accordance with GAAPDevelop, implement, and maintain internal controls and financial policiesManage cash flow, reconciliations, and treasury activitiesSupport budgeting and forecasting in partnership with the VP, FinanceLead audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors and tax advisorsMaintain compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirementsEvaluate and improve accounting systems, tools, and workflows to support scalePartner with operations and supply chain teams on inventory and cost accountingCore Competencies:Financial integrity and accuracyStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsProcess orientation and continuous improvement mindsetStrategic thinking with operational executionCross-functional collaborationClear and confident communicationHigh ownership and accountabilityTypical Day:Preparing, reviewing, and approving journal entries and reconciliationsMonitoring cash position and forecasting short-term liquidity needsPartnering with department leaders on budget vs. actual analysisLeading or preparing components of the monthly close processRefining internal controls or documentationMeeting with external auditors or advisorsIdentifying process improvements to increase efficiency and scalabilityRequired Skills:Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standardsExperience managing month-end and year-end close processesExpertise in internal controls and complianceProficiency in ERP systems and financial softwareAdvanced Excel and financial modeling skillsStrong organizational and project management abilitiesAbility to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environmentMinimum Experience Requirements:8+ years of progressive accounting experienceExperience overseeing audits and working with external accounting firmsExperience managing full-cycle accounting operationsPreferred Experience Requirements:Experience in a high-growth startup or scaling organizationBackground in robotics, hardware, manufacturing, or technology industriesExperience with inventory accounting and cost accountingExperience in venture-backed or private equity-backed companiesMinimum Education Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldPreferred Education Requirements:Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (MBA)CPA
