RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE FOR CERTIFIED STAFF NEW TO APSDATE POSTED: April 24, 2026BEGINNING DATE: August 7, 2026JOB DESCRIPTION: Gifted Teacher Part-Time w/ FTE To Be Determined Based on CaseloadPosition SummaryThe Elementary Gifted Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and services to students identified as gifted in grades K-5 in accordance with New Mexico state regulations. Instruction aligns with the New Mexico Content Standards and Benchmarks and district curriculum. The teacher supports advanced academic development as well as the social and emotional needs of gifted learners.Gifted education services are provided in compliance with guidelines established by the New Mexico Public Education Department.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide direct instruction to identified gifted students through pull-out, inclusion, or cluster-group modelsDevelop and implement differentiated curriculum emphasizing critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and depth of knowledgeCollaborate with general education teachers to ensure appropriate classroom modifications and enrichmentDevelop and maintain Gifted Individualized Education Plans (GIEPs) in compliance with New Mexico regulationsParticipate in SAT/IEP/GIEP meetings as requiredConduct and interpret student assessments to monitor progressMaintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and district policiesCommunicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student performance and programmingParticipate in professional development related to gifted education and state initiativesOther duties as assigned by supervisorsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree from an accredited institutionValid New Mexico Level I, II, or III-A Teaching LicenseEndorsement in Gifted Education (K-12) issued by the State of New MexicoKnowledge of New Mexico Content Standards and BenchmarksAbility to pass required background checksPreferred QualificationsExperience working with gifted or high-ability elementary studentsExperience developing and implementing GIEPsTraining in differentiated instruction and advanced curriculum designStrong collaboration and communication skillsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesUnderstanding of characteristics and needs of gifted learnersAbility to design instruction that provides acceleration, enrichment, and depthKnowledge of New Mexico gifted eligibility criteria and compliance requirementsStrong classroom management and organizational skillsProficiency with instructional technology and student data systemsPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods (3-6 hours daily)Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and sit on the floor or at student-height desksAbility to lift and carry instructional materials up to 25 poundsAbility to supervise and actively engage students in classroom and school environmentsAdequate vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills to monitor and instruct studentsWork EnvironmentElementary school classroom setting within a New Mexico public school districtExposure to typical classroom noise levelsFrequent interaction with students, staff, and familiesMay require travel between school sites within the districtREPORTS TO: Building Principal & Director of Special EducationWORK SCHEDULE: 184 Day ContractHOW TO APPLY: Complete the entire application ONLINE to be considered for this position.
