Wastewater Operator Lead Keep critical water and wastewater systems operating safely and efficiently while supporting environmental compliance across the facility. As a Wastewater Operator Lead, you will guide the daily operation, cleaning, and maintenance of water and wastewater equipment, ensuring systems run reliably and meet all regulatory standards. You will partner closely with the Environmental Manager and team to support safe operations, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who takes pride in environmental stewardship, equipment reliability, and supporting a high performing operation.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Lead technicians in the operation and maintenance of Wastewater Treatment equipment.
Have a valid driver's license to drive company vehicles to collect samples off plant site.
Be able to climb ladders 20 to 40 feet heights on ladders and stairs when required.
Can physically clean wastewater tanks with squeegee.
Oversee as required for safety and housekeeping, the cleaning around tanks, pumps, building and lagoons.
Work in organic sludges as required.
Operate sludge Belt Press.
Handles, acids, caustics, and polymers when required, listed MSDS sheets, and training.
Ability to make operational-related decisions under the direction of the Environmental Manager I.
Minimum Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
5 years of experience.
Strong reading, writing, math, and analytical skills.
Virginia DPOR Wastewater Operators license Class 2, within two years of selection for position.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors
Work will be outside exposed to varying weather conditions.
Will work with organic sludges, strong acids and bases.
Normal lifting of 100 pounds required.
Walks approximately five miles per shift.
Will climb ladders and stairs.
Required safety equipment will have to be worn.
