Sewage treatment facilities operate systems that collect, treat, and process wastewater so it can be safely returned to the environment. Jobs often include plant operator/technician roles, laboratory testing and process monitoring, maintenance of pumps and tanks, and support for collection and treatment operations. Work is typically hands-on at treatment sites with shift work and on-call needs, and entry-level hiring may require basic safety training and, in many locations, an operator certification.
