Tier 2 Linux Engineer (Onsite - Westbury, Long Island)
We are looking for a Tier 2 Linux Engineer to join our onsite team in Westbury, Long Island. This full-time, hands-on role is perfect for someone with strong Linux experience who enjoys working in dynamic environments and solving real-world technical problems.
Responsibilities:
Provide Tier 2 support for Linux-based systems (primarily Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL)
Troubleshoot OS, application, and networking issues across production and internal systems
Manage user accounts, permissions, and system configurations
Maintain and configure services such as Apache/Nginx, SSH, DNS, DHCP, MySQL/PostgreSQL
Monitor system performance and security using standard tools (e.g., top, journalctl, fail2ban)
Assist with backup, patching, and scripting for automation
Collaborate with other engineers and escalate issues as needed
Document procedures, incidents, and resolutions in the ticketing system
Requirements
Requirements:
3+ years of hands-on Linux system administration experience
Proficiency with command line tools, shell scripting (bash), and standard Linux utilities
Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and basic firewall rules (iptables or ufw)
Ability to troubleshoot services, logs, and performance issues
Strong communication and documentation skills
Must be able to work onsite daily in Westbury, NY
4 days (32 hours) per week including evenings and weekends.
Reliable transportation is required
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, cron scripting)
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Experience with containers (Docker) or virtualization (KVM, VMware)
Knowledge of version control (Git) and ticketing systems (e.g., ConnectWise, Jira)
