SENIOR CENTER MAINTENANCE

POSITION SUMMARYUnder general supervision, performs daily work assignments for the Senior Center Division of the Community Services Department, in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.RECRUITMENT QUALIFICATIONSRequired:• High school diploma or GED;• One (1) year of commercial custodial experience;• Valid New Mexico Driver's License with a driving record acceptable to the City of Alamogordo;• Or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Desired:• Building maintenance experience.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESEssential Duties• Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Alamo Senior Center;• Performs general custodial duties throughout the facilities including, but not limited to, shampoo/vacuuming carpets, buffing, waxing and mopping floors, stripping tile, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, including stall walls and stall doors, sweeping and cleaning all rooms and offices, cleaning and dusting windows, doors, furniture, ceiling fans, base boards, cleaning and polishing drinking fountain, refilling soap and paper towel dispensers, emptying trash, cleaning and sanitizing trash cans inside and outside of the facility;• Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Fitness Center including, but not limited to, vacuuming, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, sweeping and mopping classrooms, emptying trash, and replacing trash bags;• Maintains storage areas, patios, light court, and entryways in a safe, clean, and orderly manner;• Opens and secures buildings, puts up and takes down the flag, cleans ash trays (outside) and discards cigarette butts and waste;• Maintains the marquee and posts messages and/or event announcements for public view;• Inspects all areas of the facilities to ensure they are free of debris, floors are clean and dry, and walkways are clear prior to daily patron entry; shovels snow and deices walkways and entrances during the winter;• Maintains janitorial supply inventory and reorders as needed;• Performs facility maintenance duties that may include patching, repairing and repainting walls and doors, reporting and coordinating major maintenance/repair needs;• Performs general maintenance and minor repair of both cleaning equipment and fitness machines;• Assembles, installs, and performs minor repair of storage shelves, tables, chairs, and other office furniture as needed;• Responsible for setting up and tearing down tables, chairs, and portable walls if needed, for various functions, activities, and/or special events;• Performs groundskeeping duties including, cleaning, removing debris from rain gutters, removing trash and broken limbs from the grounds;• Replaces interior and exterior fluorescent and incandescent bulbs;• Promptly reports malfunctions of bathroom fixtures, light fixtures, and/or damages to inside or outside of building to the Senior Services Supervisor;• May deliver meals as part of the Home Delivered Meal Program, as needed;• May transport seniors in non-CDL City vehicles, as needed;• Assists in the washing and vacuuming of vehicles, as needed;• Waters and maintains live plants throughout the facilities;• Participates in the training of community service workers with cleaning responsibilities; inspects completed work to ensure quality standards are met;• Safely operates City vehicles;• Contributes to a high-quality work culture through participation in training and mentoring to develop skills, including safety-related training and skills;• Interacts professionally and provides excellent customer service to all levels of City staff and citizens to ensure high operational and service standards; and• Performs duties in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES• Must maintain required license(s);• Occasionally, duties may be performed outside of normal working hours;• Maintains the confidentiality of information obtained during performance of duties; and• Performs such other duties as may be assigned.The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.
