SUMMARY: Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs a variety of duties to assist attorneys to whom assigned. Maintains positive contact with clients and observes confidentiality of client matters. Organizes and maintains case files; reviews and summarizes medical records and other case materials; assists with deposition and trial preparation; manages deadlines; keeps accurate time records. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESEstablishes, organizes and maintains files including document indexes and inventories.Utilizes computerized case management systems and techniques when applicable.Research court dockets and obtains docket materials from state and federal courts.Performs assigned factual and legal research tasks using all available resources.Summarizes deposition transcripts and medical records in an efficient mannerPrepares, serves and monitors response to subpoenas. Assists with responding to discovery requestsReviews, organizes and numbers document productionsAssists with trial preparation:Organizes and prepares files.Assists in preparation of trial books.Assists attorney at trial.Gathers and prepares exhibits for trial.Assists with deposition preparation:Gathers and prepares exhibits.Assists with preparation of outlines.Arranges for witness attendance at depositions, hearings and trials.Manages eDiscovery collection and production and/or coordinate with eDiscovery Services to manage and organize discovery workspaces.Utilizes document review software (specifically Reveal) from the end-user perspective. Obtains statutes, regulations and case law as requested.Write clearly, proofread documents, and check citations.Follow the ethical requirements as set forth by the Rules of Professional ConductKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Knowledge of legal principles and practices at a level normally acquired through a four-year college degree or paralegal certificate.A minimum of 2-3 years of on-the-job experience in order to gain expertise needed to do substantive legal work.Knowledge of the rules of civil procedure Knowledge of the federal and state court systems.Certification in E-Discovery is preferred but not required Existing knowledge of litigation support applications and technology relevant to the practice area, including but not limited to: Reveal, Office 365, Case Notebook, Lexis, and Westlaw.Ability to draft memoranda and basic correspondence.Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when evaluating legal matters.Ability to develop and employ systems for organizing cases involving large number of documents.Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical and spelling errors.Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate and follow the instruction effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate by phone and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.Work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain while organizing and maintaining multiple cases.Ability to operate standard office equipment such as photocopiers, fax machines, personal computer, and typewriter.Ability to retrieve and distribute print volumes, push and pull packages, books weighing up to 20 pounds and ability to retrieve and replace objects from shelves of up to 8 feet high.Ability to travel to private and public buildings, locally and statewide, via private or public conveyance to assist attorney in attending to clients’ needs on legal matters.Work occasionally requires more than 35 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position; may require irregular hours.WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment/non-smoking office.
