Ophthalmic Technician Huntington Beach, CA 92647 Overview Salary Range $21.00 - $24.00 Hourly Level Experienced Position Type Full Time Job Shift Day Category Health Care Description Job Summary: The Ophthalmic Technician will assist ophthalmologists in providing comprehensive eye care services. This role involves performing diagnostic tests, assisting with examinations, and ensuring a smooth workflow within the clinic. Essential Functions : Perform preliminary examinations and diagnostic tests, including visual acuity tests, tonometry, and retinal imaging. Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures, providing necessary instruments and support. Document patient histories, symptoms, and test results accurately in the electronic medical record system. Educate patients on proper eye care, treatment options, and follow-up procedures. Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic equipment, ensuring all tools are in optimal working condition. Schedule appointments, manage patient flow, and maintain a clean and organized workspace. Provide assistance in administrative tasks as needed, including insurance verification and billing inquiries. Ensure HIPAA/PII/PHI compliance Duties and responsibilities may be added or changed with prior notice to reflect the needs of the organization. Qualifications Qualifications: High School diploma or its equivalent is required. 2+ years' experience as Ophthalmology Technician preferred Ability to type 45 wpm. Advanced understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)/Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred. Experience with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) preferred. Experience in Medical scribing preferred. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Skills/Abilities: Ability to type 45 wpm. Exceptional attention to detail. Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative. Work Environment This job operates in a professional, fast-passed, medical clinic environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets, and interacts with both staff and patients. Physical Demands The employee is required to stand and use both hands for typing for extended periods of time; Walk, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl periodically. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 hours a day shifts with occasional overtime as required. Travel This position may require up to 50% travel. Travel to multiple clinic locations, which are located throughout the Los Angeles and Orange County, will be required throughout the week, and at times on short notice.
