This position plays a vital role in supporting lifelong learning, workforce development, and community engagement. The Director will design and oversee programs that are responsive to the unique needs, challenges, and strengths of a rural population, including access, transportation, and workforce opportunities. If you are looking for the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a small, supportive community, the ability to shape and grow programs that directly benefit local residents and employers, and a collaborative work environment with strong community connections, you will definitely want to join us here in RSU 3!Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership & DevelopmentDevelop and implement flexible, accessible programming tailored to a rural community, including high school completion, HiSET preparation, college and career readiness, computer, family literacy, multilingual learning, workforce training, and enrichment coursesAssess local needs by working closely with administration, K-12 staff, community members, employers, and regional partners (Midcoast Hub 7)Expand programming through creative solutionsCommunity Engagement & PartnershipsBuild strong relationships with the 11 district towns, including local businesses, community organizations, libraries, and workforce agenciesActively promote programs through outreach efforts, including a strong marketing program with an active online presenceRecognize the importance of personal connections in a small communityAdministration & ComplianceManage state and federal grants, budgets, and reporting requirementsEnsure compliance with all adult education regulations and guidelinesMaintain accurate data collection and program evaluation processesStaff SupervisionRecruit, support, and evaluate a small team of instructors and support staffProvide professional development aligned with adult learning best practicesFoster a collaborative, flexible team environmentStudent Support & AccessCreate a welcoming and inclusive environment for adult learners of all backgroundsAddress barriers to participation, such as transportation, childcare, and technology accessSupport student persistence, goal setting, and transitions to employment or further educationActively engage with the MCCA DOE Adult Education's Maine College and Career Access program.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Education, Administration, or related field (Master's preferred)Adult Education certification or ability to obtain itExperience in adult education, workforce development, or a related fieldStrong leadership, organizational, and communication skillsUnderstanding of the unique needs and opportunities within rural communitiesKnowledgeable of HiSET programs and workforce training initiativesCHRC (criminal history record check) required, or ability to obtainPreferred:Experience working in a rural school or community settingAdministrative or supervisory experienceGrant writing and budget management experienceAbility to build strong relationships in a close-knit communityCreative problem-solving and resourcefulnessFlexibility and adaptability in a small program settingStrong communication and outreach skillsCommitment to equity, access, and lifelong learning
