Flat Laser Programmer/Operator
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for translating engineering blueprints and sketches into precise laser cutting programs for sheet metal fabrication. The role combines technical programming, quality control, and production support to ensure parts meet customer specifications efficiently and safely.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Program & Maintain Files: Use CAD/CAM software (e.g., SigmaNEST, Dr. ABE, Sheetworks, AutoCAD, SolidWorks) to create flat pattern layouts and CNC programs for laser cutting machines.
Interpret Blueprints: Read engineering drawings, sketches, and written/verbal instructions to determine job requirements.
Optimize Layouts: Perform nesting to minimize material waste and improve machine efficiency.
Quality Checks: Conduct visual and dimensional inspections to verify compliance with specifications.
Machine & Tooling Selection: Choose the most cost-effective tools and settings for manufacturing parts.
Production Support: Participate in production as needed, troubleshoot machine issues, and collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams.
Documentation: Prepare standardized work instructions, set-up sheets, and complete production paperwork.
Safety Compliance: Follow all laser safety protocols, housekeeping standards, and EHS policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience programming lasers (fiber, CO₂, Mitsubishi) for sheet metal fabrication.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM and nesting software (SigmaNEST, Dr. ABE, Sheetworks, AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
Understanding of G-code, GD&T, and material properties.
Strong blueprint reading and flat pattern development skills.
Ability to write, edit, and troubleshoot laser programs.
Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills.
Communication skills for working with engineers, clients, and production teams.

Operate forklift in a safe manner as learned in forklift training course
Use all safety attire/equipment as needed to complete the job
Maintain a neat and orderly work area, including floor space, shelving and work stations
Report any defective tools or equipment to the Robot Supervisor for repair or replacement
