Student Carpenter Shop WorkerA student carpenter shop worker will assist our full-time employees with various building maintenance tasks. Tasks may include organization, cleaning, light physical work, occasional use of power tools and other duties as required. Transferable Skills: Self-starter Must have the ability to work both independently and as a team Able to receive and understand direction given by staff members Comfortable working with hand tools and modest physical labor Duties and Responsibilities: Availability to work on an "as needed" basis throughout the academic year Receive and return timely communications from the supervisor Complete projects as directed by supervisor or carpenter staff member Must wear appropriate work wear. Long pants and closed toe shoes. Baggy or loose-fitting clothing is prohibited.
Qualifications: Must be a St. Olaf student Must complete safety training and any additional specialized training identified by facility supervisors pertinent to the Student Carpenter Shop Worker role. This position is dependent upon a clear background check. Physical and Environmental Factors: This position requires crouching, kneeling/crawling, stooping, twisting/pivoting, climbing/balancing, reaching overhead, grasping/handling, pushing/pulling, lifting and carrying objects up to 20 lbs., and operating hand tools to perform the essential functions. It also requires exposure to loud noise, respiratory factors, chemicals, vibrations, wet or humid conditions indoors, as well as rare exposure to extreme cold, extreme heat, proximity hazards, and heights or cramped quarters to perform the essential functions. Protective equipment is required for some essential functions. Candidates must possess the ability to safely perform the physical work required of all duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
