Building Engineer
The Building Engineer is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable facility operations. This role performs preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems while supporting tenant needs and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.Pay: $25.00 - $35.00/hourThe pay listed is the hourly range or the hourly rate for this position. A specific offer will vary based on the applicant's experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.401(k) - You become eligible to make personal contributions beginning the first of the month following 30 days of employment. You become eligible for the ABM match beginning the first of the month following six months of employment. ABM matches your pre-tax and/or Roth contributions, dollar for dollar, for the first 3%. For information about ABM's benefits, visit ABMABM Employee Benefits | Front Line Team MembersKey Responsibilities:Building Operations & MaintenanceOperate, maintain, inspect, and repair building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, fire/life safety, and general building infrastructurePerform routine preventive maintenance in accordance with established schedulesTroubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control system issuesMonitor building management systems (BMS/BAS) and respond to alarmsWork Orders & DocumentationComplete work orders accurately and in a timely manner using a CMMSMaintain logs, inspection reports, and equipment recordsAssist with audits and regulatory inspectionsSafety & ComplianceFollow OSHA, EPA, and local code requirementsIdentify and correct safety hazardsProperly handle chemicals, tools, and equipmentParticipate in safety meetings and trainingVendor & Team SupportCoordinate with vendors and contractors as neededEscort vendors and monitor work for quality and safety complianceSupport other engineering and facilities staff as assignedCustomer & Site SupportRespond professionally to tenant and client requestsCommunicate equipment status, repairs, and service updatesSupport after‐hours or emergency response as requiredQualifications:RequiredHigh school diploma or equivalent3+ years of building engineering or facilities maintenance experienceWorking knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systemsAbility to read blueprints, manuals, and technical documentationStrong troubleshooting and problem‐solving skillsPreferredTechnical or trade school trainingEPA Universal CertificationHVAC, electrical, or other trade certifications/licensesExperience with CMMS and BAS systemsCommercial or industrial building experiencePhysical RequirementsAbility to lift up to 50 lbs.Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in mechanical spacesAbility to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperaturesWork Environment* Commercial office, industrial, healthcare, manufacturing, or mixed‐use facilities* May include mechanical rooms, rooftops, and active workspaces$25 - $35 an hourWe may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
