Growth & Capital Campaign Director

National Capital Treatment & Recovery, formerly Phoenix House, a nonprofit substance use treatment facility in Arlington, VA, is hiring a full‑time Deputy Chief Growth Officer to drive the organization’s financial growth and sustainability. The role focuses on overseeing fundraising campaigns, cultivating major donor relationships, managing grant acquisitions, and leading the development team to meet annual revenue goals. The position reports to the Foundation responsible for fundraising and the capital campaign.
Responsibilities
Generate revenue and cultivate relationships through all development and fundraising activities.
Plan and execute the capital campaign with a goal of raising $25 million over 5 years.
Manage the Gifts Manager and Grants Manager, including oversight of grant research, writing, and reporting.
Plan and execute fundraising events, campaigns, and major‑gift cultivation events.
Secure sponsorships, auction items, and ticket sales for fundraising events.
Manage stewardship and protocol for major gift donors, including acknowledgment materials, progressive communications, and engagement opportunities.
Maintain donor database (e.g., Donor Perfect), including gift entry, duplicate consolidation, updates, and reporting.
Coordinate with the Board of Directors and development committees on fundraising strategy, event support, and communication.
Produce monthly and quarterly metrics reports for the capital campaign, the Chief Growth Officer, the President & CEO, and finance, including reconciliation with finance.
Manage annual board giving fund reports and distribute master and individual reports to board members on a quarterly basis.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum 5 years of experience in development, board management, large‑scale fundraising events, project management, and major‑gift cultivation.
Proven track record of managing million‑dollar capital campaigns and soliciting major gifts.
Experience securing federal, state, local, and private grants.
Proficiency with donor databases (Raiser’s Edge, Donor Perfect, or similar) and Microsoft Office applications.
Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and maintain accuracy.
Willingness to travel and work occasional evenings or weekends.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Maintain confidentiality of donor and development information.
Understand NCTR’s mission and programs.
Ensure compliance with NCTR policies, procedures, standards, and applicable regulations.
Deliver staff training and presentations as needed.
Negotiate and manage vendor contracts and event budgets.
Drive continuous improvement in fundraising processes.
Operate and maintain a valid driver’s license when required.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Typical duties include sitting, walking, standing, carrying up to 15 lb, typing, reading, and writing. The work environment is an office setting with occasional travel. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified applicants with disabilities.
