Field Applications Engineer
Job Description: Supports the deployment, performance, and customer success of GovComm Wrong Way Vehicle Detection Systems (WWVDS), GovComm cameras, and Carmanah traffic safety products
Partners closely with sales, engineering, and customers to ensure systems are properly specified, installed, tested, and operating as intended in real-world conditions
Responsible for technical support, system validation, and customer training
Includes working directly with agencies, contractors, and distributors to troubleshoot issues, improve system performance, and support product adoption
Requires approximately 50% travel and includes occasional evening or nighttime work to support field testing and commissioning of wrong way detection systems under live traffic conditions
On-site commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of WWVDS and cameras with contractors, agencies, and engineers
Consults with existing and prospective clients to assess and understand needs related to WWVDS and Carmanah traffic safety solutions
Provides technical support and guidance to customers on inbound phone calls, emails, and tickets
Supports product and deployment continuous improvement, ensuring that customer requirements are met while also recommending appropriate configurations, layouts, and potential product modifications
Acts as a subject matter expert on WWVDS, including system functionality, detection accuracy, false positive mitigation, and integration with traffic infrastructure
Participates in field testing, validation, and commissioning including after-hours and evening work to simulate real-world conditions and ensure system accuracy
Recommends system configurations, layouts, and improvements based on field performance and customer requirements
Assists with research, development, and validation of new products and enhancements related to WWVDS and intelligent transportation systems (ITS)
Develops and delivers technical training to distributors, agencies, and contractors on installation, configuration, and maintenance of the products
Creates and maintains training materials including presentations, installation guides, troubleshooting documentation, and video content
Collaborates cross-functionally with engineering, product management, and sales teams to support product launches and ongoing improvements
Travels up to 50% to support customer meetings, field deployments, system testing, and training activities across various project sites
Requirements: Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
5+ years of experience in technical sales, field applications engineering, or related product support roles
An ideal candidate will have prior experience in the traffic / ITS industry
