Instructional Coach (Studebaker)

Des Moines Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the 26-27 school year to serve as an Instructional Coach. This position will start in August 2026. Any K-6 endorsed applicant with three years of teaching experience and one year of teaching experience at DMPS is encouraged to apply. Please note: The posted salary is drawn from the 25-26 Salary Schedule as the 26-27 Salary Schedule is not yet final. This position also includes a $4,050 TLC Stipend that is not included in the posted salary range.TITLE: Instructional Coach (Studebaker)POSITION TYPE: TCHRHIRING SPECIFICATIONS:Required:Valid Iowa Teaching license.At least three years of teaching experience with at least one year of experience with the Des Moines Public Schools.Demonstrated record of exceptional teaching skills as reflected in the learning levels of students.Desired:Master's degree, preferably in effective teaching or adult learning/facilitation.Experience and knowledge of designing, presenting, and facilitating adult learning experiences.Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:Knowledge of current trends in professional development and education best practices.Exceptional communication skills.Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills.BASIC FUNCTION:Instructional Coaches support job-embedded professional development through collaborative and individual learning cycles to empower educators to reach student goals through the enactment of research-based best practices in teaching and leading. To improve student learning and to ensure equitable outcomes for students, Instructional Coaches use student-centered coaching techniques to engage in co-planning, micro-modeling, co teaching lessons, observing, providing feedback, and setting goals. Instructional Coaches support implementation of district initiatives directed at strengthening core instruction through the common language of effective teaching and learning practices. Instructional Coaches meet regularly with teachers to engage in transformational coaching conversations to promote reflection about student work, instructional practices, and future instruction.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Facilitate teachers' understanding and implementation of the Iowa Core Standards by engaging teachers in collaborative and individual learning cycles.Collaborate with teachers to develop growth plans which include goals and measures of success.Utilize coaching tools to support teacher growth and development.Support teachers in the analysis of instructional practice through ongoing classroom observations, data analysis, student work, coaching, and feedback.Support teachers through the collection of evidence regarding instructional practice to provide clear feedback to teachers based on analysis of practice.Develop teachers' capacity to collect and analyze multiple sources of data to improve instruction and student learning.Assist the principal in developing and facilitating professional development for the school.Foster collaboration and teacher leadership development.Attend all District professional development on a regular and consistent basis.Communicates regularly with the principal.ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.Maintain confidentiality.Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.Assist with other duties as may be assigned.DEPARTMENT: Teaching and LearningREPORTS TO: Building AdministratorRECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Building Administrator, TLC CoordinatorEVALUATES: N/ABARGAINING GROUP: DMEAFLSA STATUS: ExemptFT/PT: Full TimeDAYS: 195OR 199 HOURS: 7.75PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching/pushing/pullingWORKING CONDITIONS: Mostly indoors with some outdoor responsibilities during recess and arrival/dismissalAll of the above duties and responsibilities are essential job functions subject to reasonable accommodation.
