Multi-Function Engineer

Your New Role WBD is adapting remote (REMI) workflows to its portfolio and will be launching an area dedicated to remote productions called the Remote Operations Center (ROC). The ROC will be a multipurpose space for remote production for live sporting events. The multi-function engineer will be assigned to this space and be production adjacent to the success of the remote productions and the needs of the ROC within the studio production facility. The position will focus on support of live and recorded programming and requires knowledge of broadcast and IT infrastructure including: Technical spaces (control rooms, studios, terminal gear/equipment/central apparatus/distribution riser rooms and data centers) Associated production systems (A/V and data routing, signal processing, cameras, switchers, audio mixers, intercom, tally, encoders/encoding, feeds/edit systems, master control, highlights creation, media workflows, automation, server-based ingest/playback etc.) A working knowledge of IT and data networking is also necessary to work in an increasingly IP and IT centric broadcast/multimedia infrastructure, as well as an understanding of cloud technologies and equipment. Collaboration with team members, clients and other support groups is required to troubleshoot and resolve issues with broadcast/multimedia systems and computers in our production environments. This position will primarily provide facility-based support. It may also require support of outside productions/events or to provide technical support to upgrade outside broadcast facilities. Maintenance of electronic newsgathering (ENG) crew gear will be a shared responsibility with the field engineering team. Live production teams operate within an ITSM service management framework, supported by common processes around planning and managing changes. Adherence to our standard ITSM processes to minimize impact and deliver value to our customers is required, including documenting issues/requests and escalating as needed for problem management and resolution via our in-house service management system(s). A willingness to perform varied tasks, document systems and processes, adapt to changing priorities, and the ability to solve complex technical problems independently are essential to be successful. We expect our multi-function engineers to build good relationships with our client base and to provide excellent customer service. Good verbal and written communication skills are required. Shift work on a rotating schedule is necessary to meet our 24-hour live production schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Your Role Accountabilities Support and maintain an active production facility, repair, calibrate and install audio & video broadcast/IT equipment including cameras, switchers, audio mixers, multi-viewers, intercom systems, monitors, graphic equipment, server/playback, and related infrastructure in terminal gear/data center, master control areas, transmission sites, and throughout broadcast infrastructure plants supported by the team. Depending on your location, maintenance/repair of ENG crew gear may be required. Perform technical support for critical/on-air production systems and back-up or assist other support groups and clients for non-critical systems and IT/PC gear, including installation, problem correction, removal/replacement, or other tasks as necessary to ensure continuation of customer work productivity and/or on-air transmission. Participate in technology design, installation, and integration projects with complex, leading-edge technology in an increasingly broadcast IP and IT centric environment, including broadcast and server-based systems, data networking (e.g., routers, switches) and other comparable equipment. Document quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures, reference materials, and project work. Use Lucid Chart for system documentation and the ITSM ticketing tool to log incidents/requests. Ensure sufficient inventory of parts and technology supplies and work with procurement and asset management teams to order and track inventory. May participate in remote assignments with engineers from across WBD. Represent the company in dynamic, multicultural environments and interface professionally with demanding broadcast personnel. Qualifications & Experiences BS/BA degree preferred. Minimum of 2-5 years of network-level broadcast production experience for live game, live remote, and/or live studio productions. Proficiency in technical planning and documentation for live sports, news, or entertainment productions. Experience in managing and monitoring video and audio signals for live events. Proficient in video and audio router operations. Knowledge of cloud technology and workflows. Knowledge of REMI productions and support. Knowledge of current industry audio and video standards. Familiarity with Remote Operations, Production Control Room operations, and technical liaison roles. Ability to lead technical meetings and resolve issues proactively. Ability to work independently, and with small and large teams. Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including weekends and holidays. Not Required but Preferred Experience TD, A1, Engineering or Technical Manager experience. Ability to handle the pressures of live programming and limited time constraints.
