Job Details:Mechanical Technician – Welding / Multi-Craft / PneumaticsLocation: Birmingham, AL (On-site)Travel: Limited, with occasional support for projects and site installationsPosition OverviewA growing industrial manufacturer is seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician with strong welding, multi-craft maintenance, and pneumatic systems experience to support fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and installation of custom industrial equipment. This hands-on role is critical to maintaining equipment reliability, supporting production operations, and ensuring high-quality system builds in both shop and field environments.This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting complex mechanical systems, working with fabrication and maintenance teams, and contributing to custom equipment and industrial process improvements.Core ResponsibilitiesWelding, Fabrication & Mechanical AssemblyInterpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, schematics, and mechanical layoutsPerform MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding on structural components, piping, frames, and equipment assembliesFabricate, assemble, and modify mechanical systems and production equipmentUse hand tools, power tools, cutting equipment, grinders, and precision measuring instrumentsEnsure proper alignment, fit-up, tolerances, and quality standards during fabrication and assemblyMulti-Craft Maintenance & Equipment ReliabilityPerform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on industrial equipment and machineryTroubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and basic hydraulic systemsReplace bearings, gearboxes, valves, cylinders, belts, chains, seals, and other mechanical componentsInspect equipment for wear, leaks, vibration, and operational issuesSupport plant uptime and continuous improvement initiativesPneumatics & Industrial SystemsInstall, troubleshoot, and maintain pneumatic tubing, valves, regulators, actuators, and air systemsRead and interpret pneumatic schematics and system layoutsAssist with system testing, pressure checks, and operational validationSupport integration of pneumatic systems into automated or production equipmentInstallation, Field Work & CommissioningAssist with equipment installation, teardown, relocation, and startup activitiesPerform field modifications and repairs as needed during installationsSupport equipment commissioning, operational testing, and final system validationCollaborate with maintenance, engineering, electrical, and production teams during startup activitiesTroubleshooting & RepairDiagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions in a timely mannerIdentify root causes of recurring mechanical or pneumatic issuesAssist with emergency repairs and production support when requiredProvide feedback on equipment improvements and maintenance best practicesDocumentation & SafetyMaintain accurate maintenance, repair, and fabrication recordsDocument inspections, parts usage, and completed repairsFollow OSHA regulations, plant safety procedures, and lockout/tagout practicesMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work environmentQualificationsEducationTechnical training, trade school, or equivalent hands-on industrial experience preferredExperienceAt least 3 years of experience in industrial maintenance, welding, fabrication, or multi-craft mechanical workExperience in manufacturing, heavy industrial, processing, or custom equipment environments preferredTechnical SkillsStrong welding and fabrication abilitiesAbility to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and pneumatic schematicsExperience with industrial mechanical maintenance and troubleshootingKnowledge of pneumatics, power transmission systems, conveyors, pumps, and rotating equipmentProficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring toolsBasic understanding of hydraulics and industrial automation systems is a plusPreferred BackgroundExperience supporting custom machinery, automated equipment, or industrial production systemsFamiliarity with compressors, air systems, and pneumatic controlsExperience working in fast-paced industrial or manufacturing environmentsCertifications (Preferred)Welding certificationsOSHA 10 or OSHA 30Forklift or lift operation certificationWork EnvironmentHands-on role in an industrial shop and manufacturing environmentFrequent lifting, welding, fabrication, and equipment maintenance activitiesExposure to machinery, compressed air systems, and industrial production equipmentOccasional travel for installations and field service supportCompensation & BenefitsSalary range: $40,000 – $62,000Health, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with company matchPaid time offFlexible scheduling optionsWhy JoinWork on custom industrial equipment and fabrication projectsStrong exposure to welding, maintenance, pneumatics, and multi-craft troubleshootingOpportunities for career growth into lead maintenance or technical specialist rolesStable and collaborative environment with a strong project pipelineTo apply, send your resume to: PD@Libertyjobs.comPatrick DelGaone
