Job DescriptionEmployment Duration: 3 monthsUnder the supervision of the UCSF Health Nurse Manager and guided by Ambulatory Servicespolicies and procedures, the Hospital Assistant III assists in the delivery of care to patients at UCSFHealth Stanyan and Hyde Ambulatory Clinics. This role supports primary care or multi-specialtyteamlets and provides backup support to others. The Hospital Assistant III contributes to the patientexperience by optimizing clinic flow, conducting patient outreach, and collaborating with the careteam to support a patient-centered environment. This position performs both clerical and clinicalduties across front and back office functions, including personal care and nursing supportprocedures, laboratory tasks, and patient coordination. The role requires flexibility to supportmultiple UCSF primary care, general surgery, and multispecialty clinic sites.ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:Perform routine clinical functions including vital signs, screening, and documentationUpdate patient records, carry out orders, schedule follow-ups, and discharge patientsCoordinate interpreter services and document useAdminister vaccines after required training and verificationAssist with exams, procedures, and instrument processingTransport patients and monitor clinic flowPerform testing, specimen collection, and phlebotomyMaintain logs and complete referrals and authorizationsSupport patient communication and comply with safety and infection control policiesMaintain patient flow, communication, and clinic operationsSupport scheduling, phone management, and electronic systemsMaintain clean and stocked clinical areas and manage suppliesQualificationsRequired QualificationsMinimum of one year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical practiceCurrent American Heart Association BLS/CPR certificationPreferred QualificationsCertification from an approved Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of training and experiencePhlebotomy certification (CPT)Experience using Epic (APeX) electronic health record systemFamiliarity with immunization schedules and recommendationsPrior experience in internal medicine, geriatrics, or family medicineExperience working in a medical, hospital, or clinic environmentFluency in Spanish or Chinese (spoken, read, and written)Experience with disease registries, data collection, and basic data analysisAbout UCSF ABOUT US The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.
