Immediately, this role will personally handle all accounting functions for the company; an Invoicing Specialist will be hired to report into this position as the company grows. This role is responsible for the integrity of AFS's financial statements, including cost accounting across a manufacturing environment with work-in-process (WIP) and complex, multi-channel inventory. The Controller will partner closely with Operations and executive leadership to ensure accurate cost of goods sold, inventory valuation, and margin reporting across internal manufacturing, domestic subcontract manufacturing, and international supplier purchasing. The Controller will also serve as the financial partner to Marketing and Sales in support of the Wildway brand, managing chargebacks, deductions, and trade/marketing spend, and will lead granular budget development and tracking across the company.Key Responsibilities• Personally own and execute all day-to-day accounting functions for the company at the outset of this role; transition applicable invoicing duties to an Invoicing Specialist as that position is hired and onboarded.• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.• Manage cost accounting for a manufacturing operation, including standard costing, WIP tracking, and variance analysis.• Maintain accurate inventory accounting across internal manufacturing, domestic contract manufacturers, and international (including Chinese) suppliers.• Administer and maintain complex inventory management systems, ensuring accuracy of on-hand, in-transit, and WIP inventory valuation.• Partner with Operations leadership (including the Director of Operations) to align cost data, margin reporting, and budget performance.• Prepare and analyze P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting for executive leadership.• Own the general ledger, chart of accounts, and month-end/year-end close procedures.• Manage AP, AR, payroll accounting, and reconciliation processes.• Build annual budgets in partnership with leadership and hold the organization to those budgets at a granular, line-item level, flagging variances early.• Lead ongoing budgeting and forecasting processes in coordination with Operations, Sales, and executive leadership.• Manage company reimbursements (employee/vendor) and oversee company invoicing processes.• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax obligations, and any applicable food/manufacturing regulatory or audit requirements.• Maintain and strengthen internal controls over inventory, purchasing, and financial reporting.• Support external audits, tax preparation, and banking/lender reporting requirements.• Identify process improvements and system enhancements to support company growth.Brand Financial Support & Trade Marketing • Serve as the financial partner to Marketing and Sales in support of the in house retail brand.• Coordinate and reconcile customer chargebacks against invoices and supporting documentation.• Own invoice reconciliation processes, resolving discrepancies between shipments, invoices, and customer deductions.• Track and account for trade allowances and promotional/marketing discount programs layered throughout the year.• Partner with Marketing and Sales to budget, monitor, and report on trade spend and promotional program ROI.• Maintain accrual and reserve accounting for chargebacks, allowances, and deductions.Required Qualifications• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.• Manufacturing accounting experience, including hands-on work with WIP accounting and complex, multi-location inventory management systems.• Strong cost accounting background including standard costing and variance analysis.• Proven experience managing a full-cycle close process and general ledger.• Experience with ERP/inventory systems in a manufacturing or production environment.• Strong GAAP knowledge and demonstrated experience preparing accurate financial statements.• Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff.• Strong Excel and financial systems skills.• Demonstrated ability to build and hold the organization accountable to detailed, granular budgets.Preferred Qualifications• CPA or CMA certification.• Experience in the CPG (consumer packaged goods) and/or food industry strongly preferred.• Experience managing chargebacks, deductions, invoice reconciliation, and trade/marketing spend programs, ideally in a branded CPG environment.• Experience with inventory across international suppliers and multiple manufacturing/subcontract channels.• Experience supporting a company through a high-growth period.• Familiarity with import/customs cost accounting (landed cost, duties, freight).
