Math Instructional Coach - WWJH
PRIMARY PURPOSE:The Instructional Coach position is designed for the teacher who strives to positively impactclassroom success. The primary purpose of the Instructional Coach is to improve the learningin Dayton ISD through delivery of the state standards and ensure the district instructionalframework is delivered with efficacy. The instructional coach, under the direction of campusand district leadership, will support classroom teachers, to strengthen instruction and increasestudent learning. This position will be required to have a strong knowledge of effectiveteaching and learning practices that address differentiated instruction for the learner bothadult and student.This applicant will be an important piece in the campus leadership team,developing shared understanding and messages around the importance of instruction instudent learning.QUALIFICATIONS:Education/CertificationMaster's degree from accredited university preferredValid Texas teaching certificateDemonstrated competency in the academic subject area assignedSpecial Knowledge / SkillsAdvanced understanding of curriculum, instruction, and assessmentAbility to design effective lessons that meet the expectations of the district instructionalframework and coach peers to do the sameAbility to coach teachers in the critical attributes of instruction and student engagementwith diverse populationsAbility to collaborate in the evaluation of external instructional programsAbility to increase teacher effectiveness based on student engagement and the studentwork producedAbility to interpret data to inform instructional practicesExcellent organization and interpersonal skillsAbility to plan, and present professional learningExperienceFive years' experience as a classroom teacherClassroom coaching experience (i.e., specialist and team leader and department chair,student teacher supervisor, teacher mentor, etc.)MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Program ManagementObserve classrooms and provide feedback.Oversee the development and implementation of lesson plans incorporating the district's common instructional framework.Provide trainings to teachers.Serve as an on-site professional developer utilizing an embedded model whereby follow up is immediate and frequent.Provide opportunities for teachers to observe good teaching (other teachers, model lessons).Identify needs of teachers in instructional delivery and assessment, and plan professional growth opportunities for them.Provide teachers with strategies, resources, and ideas.Facilitate the sharing of activities, resources and knowledge across grade levels and from teachers to teacher.Analyze school data.Attend leadership meetings.Attend Instructional Coaches meetings as assigned.Attend professional development opportunities.Collaborate with other Instructional Coaches.Support teachers as they implement new instructional strategies, new curriculum, etc.15. Train and support teachers in developing common assessments within teamsof teachers including being able to articulate the rationale for common assessments.Work with individual teachers and teams to assess students' needs and plan for instruction based on those needs.Work with individual teachers to set goals, discuss issues, and make plans.Maintain an "open door" policy with teachers.Check in regularly with teachers.Work collaboratively with all teachers.Set a high level of expectations.Remain enthusiastic about teaching and student learning.Work closely with the district curriculum coordinator to plan, implement, and reflect upon curriculum.Work closely with administrators.Attendance is an essential job functionOther duties as assigned.WORKING CONDITIONS:Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental FactorsMaintain emotional control under stress.Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
