Diesel Mechanic

DescriptionDescription:The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing journeyman-level mechanical work involving the inspection, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles and equipment. This includes but is not limited to on-highway trucks, ready-mix vehicles, and various construction-related machinery. The role ensures that fleet operations remain in compliance with performance, safety, and reliability standards.Essential Responsibilities of the Position:• Complete tune-up, repair, and overhaul of diesel engines, including removal and replacement.• Complete tune-up, repair, and overhaul of gasoline, including removal and replacement.• Ability to use OEM software to diagnose and repair engines and transmissions.• Service and adjustment of transmissions.• Overhaul, maintenance, and adjustments of clutches, drive line components, and differentials.• Overhaul and maintenance of heavy and light-duty suspension systems, including heavy leaf springs.• Overhaul, maintenance, and adjustments of power and manual steering systems and components.• Repair and maintenance of fuel systems and related components, both diesel and gas.• Repair and maintenance of emission control systems.• Check, test, and repair all components and accessories of electrical systems, 6, 12, and 24 volts.• Repair and maintain cooling and heating systems.• Repair and maintain air conditioning systems.• Repair and maintenance of brake systems and related components, including mechanical brakes, electric brakes, hydraulic brakes, and air brake systems.• Repair and maintenance of exhaust systems.• Overhaul, maintenance, and testing of hydraulic systems, including pumps, rams, control valves, lines, and hoses.• Lubrication, greasing, and oil changes of cars, trucks, and heavy equipment according to specifications.• Setup, maintenance, and operation of vehicle washing equipment and steam cleaner.• Make visual inspections of equipment and report any needed repairs to the Supervisor.• Make service calls for emergency repairs, heavy-duty towing, and equipment retrieval.• Submit required work orders for work performed and time spent on the job.• Charges parts, supplies, oils, and grease to work orders.• Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor.• Perform welding on steel and aluminum using Gas, Arc, and Mig welding techniques.Skills and Knowledge:• Skilled in analyzing, diagnosing, and correcting mechanical, hydraulic, and electricalfailures and defects.• Skilled in using specialized tools and machines standard to the trade.• Ability to plan and lay out repair work. Read, understand, and carry out repairinstructions from repair manuals. Follow oral and written instructions.• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the generalpublic.• Promote a safe work environment by following all company rules and regulations.• Comply with the company attendance policy.• Keeps the work area clean and free of clutter.• Ability to engage in strenuous physical activity, including, but not limited to, stooping,standing, bending, climbing, etc. Ability to lift 50 lbs.Requirements:• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.• Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in heavy-duty diesel equipment maintenance andrepair.• Valid Class C driver's license: Class A or B license preferred.• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks including climbing, bending, andstanding for extended periods.• Must be able to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to dust,noise, and outdoor weather.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee toperform the essential functions of this job successfully.
