Temporary Election Board Office Clerk

Election Assistance Position The Board of Elections is seeking enthusiastic applicants to assist in preparations for the upcoming election. The duties of this position can include processing and picking up mail-in ballots, assisting the public with registration applications, canvassing ballots, preparing carts with election supplies, data entry, answering phones, collecting mail, and sorting and packing supplies. The hours of this position will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. with some weekend work and evening hours as the election nears, especially during early voting. During early voting, the successful applicant will be assigned to one of three early vote sites in the County.Performs beginning level general office clerical work in support of unit operations. The work involves learning basic office functions and procedures such as telephone and visitor reception, photocopy machine operation, and other general office clerical tasks. The work requires ability to operate keyboard devices but no experience. The work is performed under close to general supervision of administrative staff or higher graded office staff.Essential Job FunctionsReceives and assists visitors to the office; queries visitors and directs them to appropriate staff or offices.Receives, screens, and refers telephone calls; queries callers and transfers or refers calls to appropriate staff or other offices.Receives and routes mail; directs items to other staff or County offices as appropriate.Maintains staff personnel files to include in-service training for police and correction of three counties.Processes information by keying data into computer databases and other computerized record systems.Verifies information on billings and other documents.Produces a variety of word processed documents such as letters, memoranda, and reports; proofs and edits materials for accuracy of grammar, spelling, punctuation and format and makes corrections.Operates copying machine or other office appliances not requiring previous specialized training.Performs a variety of routine office functions.Other DutiesPerforms related work as required.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)Knowledge of--Basic office functions.English grammar, spelling and punctuation.Ability to--Learn general office clerical procedures.Perform arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.Operate keyboard devices where speed is not essential.Understand and follow oral and written instructions.Deal effectively with the public.Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)Training and/or Education:High School diploma or GED equivalent, including or supplemented by courses in keyboard operation.Experience:NoneLicenses or Certificates:NoneSpecial Requirements:A pre-employment and annual tuberculosis screening will be required if employed in a substance abuse or correctional facility.May be subject to background investigation, psychological testing, and drug screening.Physical Demands:Operation of keyboard devices.May require strenuous physical effort to perform manual work involving walking over rough, uneven terrain, repeated bending, climbing, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or lifting objects up to 100 pounds.Unusual Demands:Work is subject to frequent interruptions.FLSA Status:NonexemptCompensation Steps:Pay rate: $16.00 per hourTemporary position, 40 hours per weekBoard of ElectionsPosition closing date: April 6, 2026Please Note: This position will close at 11:59 p.m. on April 6, 2026.
