Shelter Advocate - Night Shift

Shelter Staff Positions & Wage Details: Support Staff - $21 per hour, full-time, 7pm-7am POSITION SUMMARY: Open Door HousingWorks has a long history of helping people experiencing homelessness in Washington County. We are seeking responsible and compassionate people to help operate with our shelter operations in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area. Available positions will work overseeing the shelter for approximately 30-50 guests. Reports to: Site Manager SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Responsible for enforcing guest guidelines Maintain calm and compassion under pressure Ability to display a non-judgmental attitude, and a willingness to learn new skills. Demonstrate ability to work independently, problem solve, and complete tasks in a timely manner. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. Ability to work in an environment where people may be verbally or physically hostile. Ability to work courteously with the general public, participants, and co-workers. Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork. Ability to learn and apply training instruction. Professional maintenance of appropriate boundaries. Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform assigned tasks. Physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull and lift heavy objects. Responsible for checking in guests during designated check-in time Responsible for supervising guests and responding quickly and appropriately to any potential issues or conflicts that may arise. Check in guests each day and secure/check bags Facilitate Timely Transitions for Guests Ensure a clean and sanitary environment throughout the entire shelter. Distribute linens for the beds (sheet, pillow/pillowcase, blanket) Responsible for supervising guests and responding quickly and appropriately to any potential issues or conflicts that may arise. Make any notes in the logbook overnight Must remain awake during entire shift to monitor shelter activity Responsible for supervising guests and responding quickly and appropriately to any potential issues or conflicts that may arise. Prep breakfast to-go bags for guests in the morning Ensure that guests are woken at designated times and transitioned to checking out of the shelter. Ensure a clean and sanitary environment throughout the entire shelter. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Understanding of Housing First and Harm Reduction models. Must be able pass a pre-employment drug screen, and background check. Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliation, cultural backgrounds, life-styles, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.
