Title: Assistant Director of Applied Science, Duke University Athletics Position Overview: The Assistant Director of Applied Science will play an essential role establishing a comprehensive, holistic, and strategic sports science system to support the optimization of student athlete health, wellness, performance, and development while contributing to an environment that heightens the student athlete experience. Through oversight and direct interaction this position will play a key role in data collection, analysis, and communication to coaches, support staff, and associated personnel. Be Bold. Essential Functions: * Lead data collection, analysis, and communication of sports science data for assigned teams. * Technology utilized includes but not limited to Catapult, Force Decks, NordBord, Force Frame, Body Weights, Subjective Questionnaires. * Daily oversight and mentoring of our team of sports science interns within Olympic Sports. * Collaborate with athletic medicine, sport performance, nutrition, behavior health and coaching staff to optimize student-athlete health, wellness, performance, return to play, rehabilitation progression and minimize risk for injury. * Provide insight/feedback to customize data management software. * Assist in the vetting of new technologies and software. * Contribute to research initiatives including data collection, data security, analysis, and scholarly writing. Qualifications: * Master's Degree or PhD in Sports Science, Exercise Science, Physiology, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, or related academic field. * At least one (1) year of experience working within a collegiate athletics or professional sports. * Experience working with athlete monitoring technologies (GPS, Force Plate, Wellness Questionnaires, Body Weights). * Data analysis and visualization skills (Power BI, Excel, R, Python, etc.). * Previous interdisciplinary work and communication within a comprehensive high-performance environment. * Experience in leadership/mentoring within an applied sports setting.
