The Technical Designer will oversee garment construction, fittings, and patterns while collaborating with designers and manufacturers to ensure designs meet aesthetic, functional, and quality standards. This role requires close attention to detail, technical expertise in apparel design, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Responsibilities include creating and adjusting patterns, managing fittings, and working with production teams to achieve the best product outcomes.Commitment1 day per week fit session (approximately 4–6 hours; flexible schedule)Review and fit approximately 10–12 samples per weekNYC-based preferredResponsibilitiesConduct weekly fit sessions on development and pre-production samplesEvaluate fit, balance, proportion, grading, comfort, and constructionIdentify potential customer pain points before productionProvide clear, concise, and factory-ready fit commentsCollaborate closely with design and production teams to achieve the intended silhouette while maintaining manufacturabilityReview specs, measurements, grading, and construction detailsHelp standardize fit consistency across categoriesRecommend improvements to reduce return drivers related to fit and qualityCommunicate efficiently with overseas factories and production teamsEnsure garments align with contemporary market standards and customer expectationsQualifications8+ years of experience in technical design and fitStrong background in women’s contemporary apparelExpertise in woven categories, particularly dresses and topsExperience working with premium DTC or contemporary fashion brands preferredStrong understanding of garment construction, pattern making, grading, and fitAbility to provide concise and actionable technical commentsExperience communicating with overseas manufacturers and sample roomsDetail-oriented with a strong commercial understanding of customer fit expectationsAbility to work independently in a fast-paced environmentPreferred CandidateExperience working with contemporary women’s brands is strongly preferred.Extremely detail-orientedCommercially mindedProactive and solutions-orientedStrong in both fit evaluation and production communicationPassionate about improving customer experience through product qualityCompensation Range$75–$150/hour for strong senior-level candidates
