Assistant High School Principal About Our SchoolSanford High School is located in York County in southern Maine, 15 minutes from the ocean, 45 minutes south of Portland, and less than 2 hours north of Boston. We are very proud of our state-of-the-art, 360,000 square foot facility that intertwines High School and Vocational programming and includes a Performing Arts Center and athletic complex. We serve over 1,100 students in grades nine through twelve, with a growingly diverse student population that reflects our community. Sanford High School operates on a semester block schedule and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC) and the Maine State Department of Education. Sanford High School's Program of Studies offers a comprehensive curriculum of approximately 150 courses and 25 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Our mission is to cultivate students' potential through various classroom and career-based opportunities, where students are empowered to find focus and direction in their learning experiences. Our goal is for every student to achieve their own version of success.Position OverviewUnder the general supervision of a High School Principal, to assist the Principal in providing leadership and supervision in administering the educational program of a High School in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law. The person in this role will be working primarily with ninth and eleventh grade students with respect to behavioral issues.Essential FunctionsProvides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs.Ensures that student conduct and attendance conforms with the school's standards and school district policies.Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.Assists in ensuring that Board policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school.Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.Supervises departments as assigned.Assists in the development and administration of school programs consistent with school district goals and objectives.Assists in coordinating the work of school staff to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.Assists in the recruitment and selection of employees.Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches or strategies to teaching.Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment.Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.Occasionally assist in supervision of extracurricluar events beyond the normal school day, including events like athletic contests, performances, dances, etc.To serve as Principal in the absence of the Principal.Additional DutiesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesKnowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.Knowledge of high school curriculum and concepts.Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision.Knowledge of data information systems and data analysis.Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.Ability to develop and implement projects.Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks within specific time constraints.Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.QualificationsMaine State Administrative Certification (040 or 045) required.ExperienceExtensive successful teaching experience at the high school level.Leadership experience at the high school level is required.Experience as an administrator at the High School level is preferred but not necessary.
