Position SummaryThe Quality Control Manager is responsible for managing and executing the quality control program for asphalt production and paving operations within the Mid‑West Central Region. This role ensures compliance with DOT specifications, project requirements, and company quality standards through effective testing, inspection, documentation, and corrective action. The Quality Control Manager works closely with operations, plant personnel, project teams, and inspectors to deliver consistent, high‑quality materials and workmanship.Main ResponsibilitiesQuality Control ExecutionImplement and maintain quality control procedures in accordance with DOT, project, and company requirementsEnsure proper sampling, testing, and inspection of asphalt materials and paving operationsReview test results daily and communicate issues, trends, or non‑compliance to Operations and QC leadershipInitiate and track corrective actions for materials, production, or field placement issuesMaterials & Testing OversightManage asphalt mix designs, approvals, and adjustments under the direction of the QC DirectorOversee field and plant testing, including density, gradation, binder content, and temperature controlEnsure testing equipment is properly calibrated and maintainedCoordinate with third‑party labs and inspectors as requiredRegulatory & Specification ComplianceEnsure compliance with state DOT, municipal, and project specificationsInterface professionally with DOT representatives, inspectors, and engineersMaintain required certifications, documentation, and audit readiness for labs and plantsStay informed of specification changes and testing requirementsOperational SupportWork closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to support quality executionParticipate in pre‑construction meetings to review quality requirements and mix selectionsProvide field support to troubleshoot quality or constructability issuesAssist with dispute resolution related to materials or quality concernsTeam Leadership & DevelopmentSupervise and support QC technicians and laboratory staffSchedule and assign testing personnel based on project needsTrain and mentor QC staff to improve consistency and technical competencePromote safety, professionalism, and accountability within QC teamsReporting & DocumentationMaintain accurate and timely quality documentation, reports, and certificationsTrack quality metrics and assist in regional performance reportingSupport post‑project evaluations and continuous improvement effortsQualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience5–10 years of experience in asphalt quality control, materials testing, or heavy civil constructionStrong working knowledge of asphalt mix design, production, and paving operationsExperience working under DOT specifications and quality programsAbility to read and interpret plans, specifications, and test dataValid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the Mid‑West Central RegionPreferredDOT certifications (HMA, aggregates, density testing, etc.)Experience managing QC technicians or laboratory operationsFamiliarity with performance‑based mix designsPE license or progress toward licensureSkills And CompetenciesStrong analytical and problem‑solving abilitiesExcellent communication and documentation skillsAbility to work collaboratively with operations and project teamsAttention to detail and commitment to quality complianceOrganized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple prioritiesSafety‑focused mindset
