Job Title: Cardiac Cath Lab RN Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Cardiac Cath Lab Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 10H Days Hours per Shift: 40 hours per week Experience: 3 years License: Current RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Current Cath Lab experience - Comfortable with conscious and moderate sedation - Familiar with procedural processes and airway management - Knowledge of cardiac drips such as Integrilin, dopamine, and vasopressins Description: The unit operates with 5 suites. There are 2 suites primarily for coronary cases. One suite is dedicated to peripheral cases. One suite is for vascular and neuro cases. Another suite is for electrophysiology cases. The number of cases per day varies from 10 to 22. Types of cases include cardiac/coronary, vascular, peripheral, general interventional radiology, electrophysiology, and neuro intervention. Permanent staff are cross-trained in each area, but travelers will not be cross-trained. Travelers must have current cath lab experience. The RN will administer conscious sedation and monitor the patient during procedures. Scrubbing is not required for this position. A critical care RN must complete a basic EKG interpretation test assigned during orientation. The team may include 2 techs—one to scrub and one to monitor hemodynamics. A fourth team member, either an RN or a tech, may assist depending on the case. There is a lead tech responsible for room assignments. The documentation system in use is Merge for cath lab documentation and Cerner for hospital electronic medical records. The unit is not open on weekends; however, call is required for inpatient urgent and emergent cases. Weekend call typically runs from Friday evening through Monday morning. The unit is a STEMI center and must respond to urgent procedures when necessary. The hospital provides scrub uniforms for staff. Floating to other departments is not required.
