Job DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg / Telemetry for a travel nursing job in Quincy, Illinois.Job Description & RequirementsSpecialty: Med Surg / TelemetryDiscipline: RNStart Date: 06/08/2026Duration: 13 weeks36 hours per weekShift: 12 hours, nightsEmployment Type: TravelAssignment OverviewShift: Nights, 3x12hrsHours: 36 hrs/wkStart Date: Jun 8, 2026Length: 13 weeksOpenings: 1DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Med/Surg Telemetry travel contract requiring Epic EMR proficiency and total joint experience on a busy inpatient surgical unit.DetailsAcute care inpatient setting, Med/Surg Telemetry unit (3rd floor) with 48 beds across two buildingsPatient population includes post-surgical cases such as laminectomy, cervical fusion, joint replacements (total hips/knees), ostomies, hernia repair, fem-pop bypass, BKA/AKA, as well as sepsis, chronic pain, dialysis, and urgent OR admissionsNurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6 on nights; LPNs available, along with virtual admission and discharge nursesPrimary care nursing model is frequently used — candidates must be comfortable with this modelCommon procedures and therapies include PCA pumps, TPN/Lipids, PICC lines, epidurals, IV antibiotics, heparin drip titration, and narcotic managementRespiratory therapy manages CPAP (home unit), Airvo, and BiPAP; RT remains on unit for BiPAP patientsTelemetry monitoring is supported by a monitor tech; RNs are required to independently interpret their own strips using Dräger monitorsEpic EMR is used; experience is required as the facility is undergoing an Epic conversion in Q2 202612-hour night shifts (7 PM start), three shifts per weekEvery other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)No on-call or standby requirementFloating is limited to like units only; if floated to a higher acuity unit, the traveler would serve in a support role only, not carrying a full patient loadSchedules are set 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling is not guaranteedRequirementsActive IL RN license requiredActive BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications requiredMinimum 2 years of RN experience requiredSurgical nursing experience required, including total joint replacement experienceExperience with PCA pumps, reversal agents (Narcan), and sepsis management requiredExperience with TPN and Lipid administration requiredEpic EMR experience requiredAbility to independently interpret telemetry strips requiredComfortable with a primary care nursing modelAdditional InformationUnit is fast-paced with heavy patient loads, receiving 8–12 surgical admissions per day in addition to active dischargesCharge nurses on days are typically staff nurses who carry a reduced assignment; nights may be covered by the house supervisor in a similar capacityCNAs are available but may be pulled for sitter duties; night shift has higher CNA needsOrientation consists of one 12-hour shift on the hired unit and shift; the first day runs 12–14 hours to complete competencies, computer-based modules, and general orientationTravelers are included in the holiday rotation alongside core staffBlack scrubs requiredLocal candidates are accepted for this positionAmerican Traveler Job ID #P-708661.
