Click here for a complete list of benefits:https://csu.edu/humanresources/benefits.htmJob SummaryUnder general supervision from a Steam & Power V or other designated supervisor, to supervise and perform skilled mechanical work in the repair, operation, and maintenance of a heating plant and/or other related mechanical equipment throughout the campus.Job DescriptionCharacteristic Duties and Responsibilities 1. fires boilers 2. starts and stops turbines, feed pumps, and air compressors 3. regulates steam flow 4. reads meters 5. operates condensers 6. operates and maintains engines, pumps, generators, ice machines, HVAC and other power plant and engine room equipment 7. operates switches 8. checks water levels, temperatures, and steam pressures 9. supervises and trains subordinates and other assigned personnel as required 10. performs related duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsCREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICERHigh school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in the maintenance and operation of steam and power plant equipment. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience in a position comparable to the Steam and Power Plant II. Possession of current/valid licenses and certificates, as required by the employing institution. Preferred Qualifications1. Live in Illinois. (REQUIRED) 2. City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License (REQUIRED) 3. CFC Certification (REQUIRED) 4. Valid Driver's License (REQUIRED)Departmental Preferences: -Swimming Pool Certification -2 years of High-Pressure Boiler and/or High Temperature Hot Water Generators experienceHours: Hours may vary depending on departmental needs.This position requires a background check.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses repair, and maintenance; power plant equipment, steam-generating equipment, and pollution-control devices. Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote the effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions. Knowledge of steam and power plant operations. Knowledge of systems such as word processing, managing files, and records, other office procedures and terminology, and building automation systems and equipment. Skill in the management of personnel resources such as motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, and identifying the best people for the job.
