This role is to promote the health, safety and well-being of the client which will lead to a better quality of life. The Instructor will assist individuals with making proper choices in their lives while supporting and encouraging those choices. The Instructor supports clients with accomplishing daily living activities in their home and/or in the local community. The position provides necessary instruction to clients so as to assist them with maintaining their independence and safety in the community. This is a challenging position, it requires good judgment, excellent written and verbal communication skills, quick problem-solving skills and patience. The successful candidate must have the ability to develop a rapport and trust with our clients and have a genuine desire to serve our unique community. Instructors must be extremely organized, responsible and able to manage a fluctuating schedule. Previous experience in human services is a plus.Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide community supervision to ensure the health and safety of individual servedAssist individual served with planning meals, purchasing and preparing foodAssist individual served with personal care including dressing, undressing, hygiene, toilet actives and other activities of daily living (if necessary)Assist individual served with money managementAssist individual served with social/leisure explorationAssist individual served with housekeeping duties and maintaining their homesAssist individual served in developing independent living skillsPrepare and maintain records of assistance renderedMaintain client confidentiality, follow reporting procedures regarding special incident reportsAssist individual served with coordination of medical/dental and mental health servicesMonitor client progress towards goals; responsible for writing and organizing detailed notes and progress reportsTeach community awareness to individuals served while they access their community via public transportation and travel trainingAttend required trainings, staff/progress meetings, annual & quarterly meeting with client and support teamResponsible for managing a self-directed scheduleOther duties as assignedSkills & QualificationsMinimum 1 year experience preferred supporting adults with developmental disabilitiesValid California Drivers LicenseCurrent auto insurance/registration, acceptable moving violation recordPass Criminal background checkHigh School Diploma or GEDCPR/First Aid, CPI CertificateKnowledge of individuals with developmental disabilities with dual diagnosis a plusFamiliarity with Regional Center Services a plusAbility to exercise mature judgment and relate to individuals in a warm caring mannerBilingual English/Spanish a plusAbility to communicate effectively through verbal and written skillsSelf-starter with the ability to multi-taskResults oriented, sound judgment, service oriented, assertive/persuasiveHigh energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projectsAbility to set priorities and be flexible based on changing prioritiesActive listening skills with the ability to interact effectively with management and clientAbility to establish credibility, be decisive, recognize prioritiesResourceful and well organizedGood reasoning abilities and sound judgmentTransport client via personal vehicle and/or community transportation during training hoursBasic computer skillsMust be available to work weekend and or evening hours (if applicable)Shift availabilityAfternoon/Evening Shift
