Associate/Assistant Athletic Trainer

Summary of Position: Indiana Wesleyan University is seeking to hire an Associate or Assistant Athletic Trainer, as determined based upon both educational background and years of experience.Primary responsibilities of the Associate/Assistant Athletic Trainer include providing athletic training services as determined by the Head Athletic Trainer, and assisting with the day-to-day operation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of the athletic training program as it relates to athletic injury management and intercollegiate / club athletics medical coverage.Indiana Wesleyan University is a NAIA institution that sponsors 24 intercollegiate athletic teams with approximately 650 student athletes. The Associate/Assistant Athletic Trainer will also serve as a Clinical Preceptor for the Athletic Training Program.This is a full-time, 10-month position starting on August 1 of each calendar year and ending on May 30 or the conclusion of team's spring competitive season, whichever is later.Duties and ResponsibilitiesPRIMARY DUTIESProvide athletic training services for intercollegiate athletes / sports as determined by the Head Athletic TrainerProvide athletic training coverage and emergency medical care for club athletes/sports as determined by the Head Athletic TrainerServe as a Clinical Preceptor for the Athletic Training program and assist the Clinical Education Coordinator in the supervision and clinical education of athletic training studentsMaintain an accurate health care account of all intercollegiate athletes. Document all athletes that have been evaluated, treated, and rehabilitated in the athletic training facilities and ensure that the appropriate records are properly completed and/or uploaded onto the electronic medical records systemProperly, and in a timely manner, file any appropriate claims with the secondary insurance companyAssist with supervision of the daily operational procedures of the athletic training clinics and facilitiesAssist in the review of annual pre-participation physicals and paperwork for all intercollegiate athletesAssist in the scheduling and administration of routine team physician visits for injured intercollegiate athletesAct as a liaison between intercollegiate head coaches and team physiciansProvide insight, rationale, and personal preferences concerning organization and the purchasing of medical supplies/equipment for the athletic training facilitiesAssist with organization and maintenance of medical supplies/equipment inventoryActing within scope of practice, counsel with students and refer as necessary regarding personal, emotional, academic, or spiritual hardships/problemsParticipate as requested in committees, councils or professional organizations that pertain to this position. Attendance at university chapel services is encouragedPerforms miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Head Athletic TrainerMaintain certification/membership with the following:Board of CertificationIndiana Professional Licensing AgencyNational Athletic Trainers' AssociationHealthcare Provider CPRADDITIONAL DUTIESLeads and mentors Assistant Athletic Trainers; ensures quality of care to student-athletes and compliance with established standards and requirementsPromotes a positive learning environment for clinical education; assists with the identification of continuing education units (CEUs) required for continued credentialing of athletic training staffParticipates in development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in the accomplishment of established goalsAdvise the Head Athletic Trainer on decision-making processes, including, but not limited to: athletic training services, operational/administrative issues, budgetary processes, compliance with NAIA guidelines, etc.* SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY* Will serve as a Clinical Preceptor for the Athletic Training Program, which involves supervision and clinical education of athletic training studentsQualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.EducationBachelor's degree in Athletic Training RequiredMaster's Degree preferred for Associate Athletic TrainerMust have current BOC recognition as a Certified Athletic TrainerIndiana licensure is required. The licensure process should be started, if not already secured, once the successful candidate has accepted the positionHealthcare provider-level CPR certificationExperienceOne (1) year of post-certification experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer is preferred for the Assistant Athletic Trainer positionAt least five (5) years of post-certification experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer is preferred for the Associate Athletic Trainer positionCollege experience and experience with a variety of sports are desirablePrevious experience in clinical supervision of athletic training students is desirableDemonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and culturesRequired SkillsMust demonstrate a mature and expressive Christian faith commitmentDesire to work to create an environment of quality and innovationWork within the Athletic Department and Athletic Training Program to foster an environment of cooperation and unityMaintain a professional image and manner consistent with Indiana Wesleyan University's mission and goalsIWUKingdom Diversity StatementIWU, in covenant with God's reconciling work and in accordance with the Biblical principles of our historic Wesleyan tradition, commits to build a community that reflects Kingdom diversity.
