In this senior leadership role, you will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Finance team to oversee core financial functions, ensure regulatory compliance, and support organizational planning and performance.This role is ideal for a finance leader who combines strong technical accounting expertise with collaborative leadership, operational insight, and a commitment to continuous improvement. What You'll DoAs Finance Director, you will oversee financial operations and partner with leadership across the organization to support sound decision-making and financial stewardship. Key responsibilities include:Supporting the CFO in developing and executing organizational strategies, financial plans, and the annual budgetReviewing and analyzing departmental and organizational performance against targets, KPIs, and business objectivesCollaborating with executive leadership to develop and implement plans to address performance gaps and achieve business goalsAligning and documenting departmental priorities, goals, and objectives on a quarterly and monthly basisRepresenting the Finance department by presenting financial performance, project updates, and analysis to internal and external stakeholdersSupporting the CFO in developing and maintaining key stakeholder relationshipsManaging departmental staffing plans and overseeing hiring, training, supervision, and performance management in partnership with Human ResourcesMaintaining high performance standards through regular communication, coaching, counseling, and performance evaluationsPromoting ongoing professional development for Finance staff and maintaining personal professional growthOverseeing all financial accounting, reporting, and financial statement operations in accordance with GAAP and statutory standardsDeveloping, implementing, and ensuring compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and proceduresManaging treasury functions, including cash management, banking relationships, and investment accounts in collaboration with investment advisorsCoordinating all external financial audits, including preparation of audited financial statements and auditor-requested schedulesOverseeing preparation and coordination of IRS Form 990, year-end 1099s, and 1095s, and serving as a key contact with tax preparers and the IRSCoordinating annual rating reviews with A.M. BestOverseeing internal audit activities across eligibility, groups, providers, claims, accounts payable, and payrollEnsuring financial data security and compliance with applicable laws and regulationsEstablishing guidelines for budgeting and forecasting and preparing the annual administrative budget with the CFO and department leadersPromoting and enforcing WHA privacy and information security policies, including ensuring staff training and compliancePerforming special projects and additional duties as assignedWhat We're Looking ForWe're seeking a finance leader with deep accounting knowledge, strong leadership capabilities, and experience operating in a regulated environment.Required QualificationsExtensive experience in financial accounting, reporting, budgeting, and audit coordinationStrong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)Demonstrated experience managing teams, setting performance expectations, and developing staffExperience coordinating external audits and working with regulatory bodiesStrong analytical, communication, and presentation skillsAbility to collaborate effectively with executive leadership and cross-functional teamsStrong commitment to data security, compliance, and ethical financial practicesPreferred QualificationsExperience in healthcare or health plan environmentsExperience working with nonprofit or regulated organizationsFamiliarity with IRS Form 990, statutory reporting, and rating agency reviews (e.g., A.M.
