Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year Job description: BIRNS, Inc. is an AS9100 certified global leader in the design and manufacturing of high-performance underwater connectors, subsea cable assemblies, subsea lighting, dive lights, and nuclear facility lighting. BIRNS is seeking an energetic, experienced “hands-on” Manufacturing Engineer- GRE Thermoset Molding. SUMMARY The following is a description of overall responsibility as it supports the department and how the role impacts the company. The CAD Drafter directly supports engineering throughput by offloading drafting, detailing, and documentation activities from Engineers, allowing Engineering staff to focus on higher-value design, analysis, and project execution. This role is responsible for producing accurate, timely, and well-controlled drawings, models, and related engineering documentation in accordance with company standards, applicable codes, and quality requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following is a framework of the essential duties and responsibilities for this role. Basic duties are outlined here and are not limited to this outline. Duties and responsibilities may change according to business need and other duties may be assigned. 1. Drafting and Modeling Create detailed 2D drawings and, where applicable, 3D models of parts, assemblies, and layouts from sketches, redlines, specifications, and engineering direction. Prepare technical illustrations for instruction manuals, work instructions, installation guides, and other internal or customer-facing documentation. Develop charts, diagrams, and graphical representations of technical data as required. Verify drawings for dimensional accuracy, tolerances, materials, finishes, part relationships, and overall fit and function within assemblies or systems. Revise and update drawings in response to Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), redlines, and design updates, ensuring proper revision control and approvals. Produce released drawings and print packages for production, quality, procurement, and external vendors. 2. Documentation, Configuration Control, and Data Management Assign, manage, and maintain part numbers in accordance with company numbering and classification standards. Maintain accurate drawing revisions and metadata within CAD systems and applicable Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), document control, or ERP systems. Create, update, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), including both electronic and controlled hard-copy records when required. Ensure engineering documentation is properly stored, archived, and retrievable, maintaining compliance with internal document retention and quality standards. Support audits, reviews, and cross-functional requests by providing accurate and current engineering documentation. 3. Cross-Functional Support and Continuous Improvement Estimate, track, and report drafting and documentation effort to support engineering planning and workload forecasting. Provide technical drafting support and clarification to Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and other departments as requested. Identify opportunities to improve drafting efficiency, standardization, and documentation quality, including the use of templates, libraries, and best practices. Maintain departmental tools, CAD standards, and shared resources; support a clean, organized, and professional work environment. Inventory and manage engineering office and drafting-related supplies as assigned. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE · Associate’s degree (A.A.) in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field, and a minimum of 1-3 years’ relevant drafting experience; or · An equivalent combination of education, technical training, and practical experience. · Required knowledge and experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. LANGUAGE SKILLS · Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, specifications, operating and maintenance instructions, computer data, and procedure manuals. · Ability to write clear, routine reports, documentation and correspondence. · Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, managers, and cross-functional teams. REASONING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY · Ability to solve practical problems and manage multiple tasks with competing priorities. · Ability to interpret and apply instructions provided in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based formats. COMPUTER SKILLS · Proficiency in computer-aided drafting using commercial CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD and/or similar industry-standard tools). · Working knowledge of 2D drafting standards and familiarity with 3D modeling environments preferred. · Experience using Windows-based systems and common business software (e.g., Microsoft Office). · Familiarity with document control systems, PLM, or ERP environments is strongly preferred. GENERAL Self-starter, able to work independently, able to work under pressure, comfortable with interacting with multiple levels of organization, able to work cross-functionally within organization to accomplish objectives, results oriented.
