We believe that, together, we can create a brighter, more sustainable future while tackling the most pressing challenges of the 21st century.   We are looking for a Payroll Manager to join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies.  This role will report to our Senior Payroll Manager and based in San Jose, CA.  This is a fully on-site, in office role 5 days a week. Key Responsibilities:Payroll OperationsLead and execute end-to-end payroll processing (bi-weekly, weekly, and/or monthly) for multi-state U.S. employees (global exposure a plus)Review and approve payroll registers, variance reports, and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completenessOversee off-cycle payrolls, including terminations, bonuses, and adjustmentsManage payroll-related aspects of equity compensation (e.g., RSUs, ESPP, stock options)Compliance & Regulatory ManagementEnsure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and wage and hour regulationsManage payroll tax filings and coordinate with external providers as applicableAdminister 401(k) contributions, audits, and compliance requirementsLead and support internal and external payroll audits, ensuring strong controls and documentationSystems & Process OptimizationServe as system owner for payroll platforms (e.g., ADP, Workday), ensuring optimal configuration and performanceIdentify, design, and implement scalable processes and automation to improve efficiency and reduce riskPartner with HRIS, Finance, and IT teams on system integrations, enhancements, and data integrityMaintain and continuously improve payroll procedures, controls, and documentationEmployee Experience & SupportAct as point of contact for complex payroll inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate resolutionPartner closely with HR to ensure accuracy of employee data impacting payroll (hires, terminations, comp changes)Build trust through clear communication and consistent, error-free payroll deliveryReporting & Financial PartnershipPrepare and analyze payroll reports (e.g., headcount, labor costs, variance analysis)Support month-end and year-end close activities, including accruals, reconciliations, and audit schedulesPartner with Finance on payroll forecasting and expense managementCollaborationCollaborate cross-functionally with HR, Finance, Legal, and ITContribute to payroll strategy, including scaling operations to support company growth and potential expansionQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi-state U.S. payrollStrong knowledge of U.S. payroll tax laws, wage and hour regulations, and compliance requirementsDemonstrated experience managing payroll audits, reconciliations, and controlsHands-on experience with payroll and HRIS systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, UKG)Advanced Excel skills (e.g., PivotTables, XLOOKUP, data analysis and validation)High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilitiesProven ability to manage confidential information with discretionContinuous improvement mindset with experience in process optimization or automation (Lean/Six Sigma a plus)Strong collaboration and communication skills across functions and levelsNice to HaveExperience with global payroll or multi-country expansionEquity compensation experience in a public companyExperience in a high-growth or scaling organizationBloom Energy is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions on the basis of merit.
