This role includes evaluating recovery status, implementing individualized post-surgical care plans, administering ordered treatments, and collaborating with the surgical and anesthesia teams to ensure safe transitions of care. The PACU RN is responsible for maintaining patient safety and comfort during the recovery phase while applying advanced clinical judgment, effective communication, and adherence to professional and regulatory standards.Key Responsibilities:Receive patients from the operating room and perform comprehensive assessments of their immediate post-anesthesia conditionContinuously monitor vital signs, neurological status, and overall recovery from anesthesiaAdminister medications and therapies in accordance with established post-anesthesia nursing protocolsAssess and address patient comfort and safety needs throughout the recovery processObserve, document, and report patient responses, complications, and significant changes to the care teamRespond quickly to emergencies using PACU guidelines, protocols, and nursing standardsAccurately record assessments, interventions, and recovery progress in the medical record systemDevelop and provide individualized education to patients and families, including discharge instructions and recovery expectationsCollaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated postoperative careParticipate in structured handoff communication between OR, PACU, and receiving units to maintain continuity of careOperate and manage PACU monitoring and support equipment, including ventilators, infusion pumps, and cardiac monitorsComplete additional responsibilities within scope of practice as assignedFollow all facility safety policies, infection control measures, and regulatory requirementsRequired Skills and Qualifications:Strong critical thinking abilities, commitment to service excellence, and effective communication skillsProficiency in reading, writing, and speaking EnglishAbility to interpret written instructions, follow verbal directions, and use computer systems effectivelyPhysical capability to remain stationary for extended periods, move throughout the unit, and lift or handle equipment weighing 50–100 lbs, including pushing, pulling, and bendingAbility to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team while maintaining professionalismFine motor skills and coordination necessary for patient care and equipment operationAbility to function effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment under pressureCapacity to work independently or with occasional supervision as neededFlexibility to adapt to changing patient volumes and schedules while maintaining attention to detailAdequate visual acuity and communication skills necessary for safe and effective clinical practiceRequirementsRequired for OnboardingBLSPACU
