Summer Camp Counselors- Camp VentureParks, Recreation & Facilities Department - Recreation DivisionAbout the City of Portland Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department:The Portland Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Department is comprised of 160 full-time and over 250 seasonal staff dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Portland, Maine. They achieve this by operating cultural venues, running community programs (including Before and After School, Swim Lessons, and Senior Adult programs), and maintaining public buildings, waterfront infrastructure, 70 parks, 40+ miles of trails, 13 cemeteries, and 30 playgrounds. Their diverse team, including Park Maintainers, Lifeguards, Event Managers, Horticulturalists, and many others, works collaboratively to provide spaces and opportunities for social connection, recreation, and community development.Job Summary:Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department- The City of Portland Recreation Division is offering a creative opportunity to engage with youth through a variety of recreational activities based out of our exciting summer camps. Being a camp counselor with Portland Recreation offers invaluable leadership, enrichment and skill building experiences. Camp Counselors will go on active adventures, make new friends, get crafty and be role models for Portland youth.Duties & Responsibilities:* This position is responsible for monitoring and engaging with program participants in Camp Venture located at Riverton Community Center, East End Community Center and Amanda C. Rowe Elementary SchoolPreferred Skills & Experience:* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the public.* Ability to work with others, as well as independently.* Experience working with youth in a recreational summer camp setting.* Comfortable working around water (pool or lake) is required. Must be able to stand for extended periods in various outdoor weather conditions* First aid and CPR certification desired, but not required* Knowledge of a variety of games, sports, and leisure activities.* Ability to commit to and work all weeks of summer camp.* Must pass a criminal background check.Expected Hours/Schedule:* Camp dates (7 weeks): Monday, June 29th - Friday, August 14th, 2026 (35-37.5 hours per week).* Camp Training: Paid training will take place on Monday, June 22 - Friday, June 26, 2026.
